Default 4-wheel drive not engaging

Hello,

I own a 96 Geo tracker that I bought new. It is a 4x4 with 5-speed. It has developed a problem that I need an answer to. When I put the transfer case into 4-hi or 4- low and engaged the hubs, the 4 wheel drive is not engaging, in other words the front wheels, wheel is not in 4x4. It indicates that it is on the dash, but it isn't. Any ideas? By the way, it is all orginal and only has 49,000 miles.

lock front wheels.
turn them by had, and feel it work agains transfer case. in gear, all, 4x4 , 1st gear main.
lift front wheel.
now it must feel locked.

if not , look at drive shaft behind wheel.
is it moving NO
then wheel locks are bad.

the locking hubs are probably filthy and jammed in side.
do the service point on them

I got the hubs off yesterday, totally corroded. Ordered new hubs from Tellico 4x4. While I was at it I changed out all fluids and cleaned her up.
