That's the same piece that has gone on my Tracker. I'm waiting til spring to tackle it. In the meantime, I got the rust converter and encapsulator from Eastwood (over $130.00 just in postage to Ireland - couldn't find anything comparable here). So, just when I thought I would get this under control, I began to get a loud knocking sound from under the car, whenever I hit a bump. Next adventure? The 'cab bushing' (at least that is what my mechanic calls it), from the right passenger side. He says that this is not tremendously important - only serves as to ensure cab not bounced around to much (???). So, it appears that, after 17 years of living by the sea, the structural bits of the car are starting to need maintenance. I shouldn't complain. In all this time, the only major thing that has gone wrong with the car is the computer. It really owes me nothing......However, I love this car. It's perfect for where I live (although gas mileage not the best compared to other European cars), and I want to keep it on the road. In 3 more years it will be deemed a 'classic'. Reduced reggie costs!! (which...keep your hats on....is about $600.00 A YEAR here, for 1.6L, based on the size of the engine. Don't see too many V8's around here - reggie is about $1,000 a year, to say nothing about gas over $8.00 a gallon.....)

Hi.
Bex
i think that cab bushing, is a body mount.
the body (cab) is seperate from the frame ,like cars of olden days.

$600 year, that is lots of welding ! and money goes to locals ,stead of gov.
find the best welder and ask him to fix the most important bits,
in this order (
1: track rods read left and right mounts.
2: top of rear axle pig ( I called it a pickel fork) but if breaks you are in pickle !
3: Main frame weaknesses. (any cracks)
4: front top mcphersion strut mounts ( look at front shock type things )
5: the bottom A arms of the front wheels and bottom of McPherson struts.

another popular fail,
both #1s is top of take rust
and tank mounts rusting away.

I here these all from our Canadian friends up North.

Ouch that is brutal shipping costs. sorry for that.

his comment is not tremendously important, no dought is because of the other 4 mounts are good. 8 mounts total. 1 down 7 to go , ahahahaha

it would be like Keystone cops, car stops and body jumps up and lands 10 in front of car. LOL.
seriously the top 5 are really equal, as it could cause loss of control.

most these cars rust rear to front, i guess due to salt accumulating there in clusters.
the area from the rrear axle pig (ring gears) to the rear love to rust.

all the best you, jerry

second pipe from rear, love to rust
and ends first.
it just holds gas tank.

cut out cancer like rhino said
then weld new side plates 4 x 4 inches, then new pipe extension.
then spary on cold zinc spray paint or that eastwood fancy stuff.;

ACE hardware now carries, rustoleum Rustconverter and can of cold zinc primer.
not too cheap $8 each.
the former is a phophoric acid etching primer converter
and the later is just good old zinc , sacrificial metal primer.
cheers
