First time in these forums and I'll likely be in need of more lay-man type explanations than master mechanic rhetoric since I've not had much experience with more involved solutions to auto problems.
Wife recently purchased a 94 auto Escudo.
The car hesitates and slightly lurches on light acceleration in 2wd. Problems cease around 30-40kmh and car runs well. I have not tested the car in 4wd. Heavy acceleration in gravel doesn't result in the same problem.
Please let me know any suggestions, solutions, or other simple tests you'd like me to do and I'll get back with observations in a timely fashion. Much obliged.
I'll try to keep up mechano-intellectually with your suggestions as best I can.
Recently purchased -- First thing to do if you're not positive of when it was done, is a complete tune-up. Plugs, wires, timing, all filters. How many miles on it? Has it had a new timing belt yet? Tracka96
Tracka96, on your advice I'm going to replace the plugs and wires, I'll have to take it into the shop for the timing though, I don't have the know-how to have a crack at it myself. Thanks.
Hamsta, I'm in New Zealand.
Will keep you updated, thanks again for your help.
When you change the plugs and wires, blow the dirt out of the deep hole that the plugs are in so it doesn't fall into the cylinder when you remove the plug. Do one plug and its wire at a time to avoid getting them in the wrong place. IMPORTANT! Lots of people get in trouble by making that mistake. You might even want to take some good pictures that show which wire goes where. Tracka96
