Not much of an answer, but I experienced two different
wiring connections between instrument clusters with both
having a speedometer and a tachometer. They did come
out of different model years (1991? and 1994).

Default tacho

im doing same thing.
speedo cluster 4wd adding to kick that was 2wd ,long ago converted.
the harness may be diff.

i am pulling mine soon to see if the wire and missing pin is pressing.

pull speedo,
look at conn. count pins ,find brown wire.

if wire and pin is present, then tacho will work (if it is in fact good)
the tach in the kick head is fully electronic. and simply counts the spark fires.

Default the final answer on tacho, yes , harness is wired.!

here is the back side of my speedo on 2wd .

see pin A9 has no connection.(2wd)

but my 2wd vehicle harness is wired, prefect. (brown wire to supressor mod)

so swap speedo heads.
ah, but there are like 30 + diff, speedo heads.
my web site has the 4wd only list, if interested.

connectors must match.
min is 12 pin (A) and 10 pin (.

my 93 is 16 x 13 pins, and will not work.

connector C is useless, as it only operates Federal 48 SES nag light.
so fed or calif heads will work. , with correct conn and counts.

cheers.

Ah , here is my list

hi,
you asked

i just put a 92/93 speedo head in my 91. ( BINGO !)

http://carfix.stufftoread.com/sensor...71E21-93wa.jpg

34100-71e21 suz pn. $10 on fleebay.

I threw away both wire sets dangling there, left is, over drive AT and power light?
and the left is the SES nag light, ( gone)
the tacho and all intruments work perfect.

no wiring changes needed, all lamps and lights work perfect.
the key.
you must buy a 12x10 head. 12 pins left , 10 on the right. get photos from sellers.

see my new list on heads.

cluster-frack
hit F5 (refresh) after loading page.

all 71 72 prefix
are good , cept e61 (2wd) 92.93 range.

In some markets late 8V models have the tacho driven from the ECU (EE44 EPROM and possibly others).

i think that doesnt happen in usa/canada until past 1998.
the 96 is powered by the coil.(noise suppressor and 2k resistor)
a 99 USA vitara is driving from ECU directly.
and speedo driven directly from VSS , not mechancially.

at some point fwd, suz, put all gauges on voltmeters driven from ECU.
seem EU , Suz. are quite advanced.

cheers

Exclamation

Also watch if you have an auto trans.. if you put a cluster in from a Manual then you will trigger a VSS code and light up the CEL.

at the least. a dead vss will make ECU very sick.

sure, if you drive with the cluster out, the vss will be dead.and trip vss DTC.
on 91 the wiring is the same. ( shows dotted lines for AT variances and no VSS diffs)

depends on the year.
depends on the tranny, the 4speed relies on 2 vss senders and a TCM (tranny puter)

only diff with mine 92/93 , AT , is it has a OD lamp.
all VSS pins A1 and A2 are identical to MT. and runs fine.

please, tell what year you had trouble?

could be the corroded connections. that kill most.

happy holidays
