Wink Clutch cable adj. nut stuck!

Hi! I'm new here and I think I already like this place I own a Geo Tracker, a Chevy Sprint and even a Quad Runner 185 ATV :P Really like zukis!

So, I bought my Geo Tracker 1997 4x4 manual this summer. Everything is up and running well except for some eeps! here and there but nothing serious.

The first I'd like to fix is the clutch system. I'm almost sure the cable needs adjustment because even when the pedal is depressed, I hear the gears spinning as if it was in neutral and then it's a real pain to get into first gear.

So I went under it with a carpet and my trusty tools and tried to tighten the adjusting nut near the trans and... oops, it's stuck into rust and the whole cable turns along... I could have tried to hook a pair of locking plyers on the stud but I don't want to damage its threads!

Now before I strip another rusted nut on one of my vehicles, I'd like your tips and tricks on this very situation because I'd like this 5 minutes fix not to turn into a 4 houres nightmare (again).

Thank you!!!

Jerome

I did put some PL-100 on it yesterday. I'll try to screw again tonight.

I've had better luck with PB blaster, just my 2 cents. I'd spray it on for a couple days. If it's particularly difficult, you could try a Mapp gas torch or acetylene. Use a heat sink (piece of scrap sheet metal or aluminum siding) between anything you don't want burned. If you don't have a torch and can get it started, work the nut back and forth a couple of threads at a time while applying penetrating oil. Good luck

I've heard of or used Kroil, CRC, Liquid Wrench, etc penetrating oils but was unaware of this product. I'm always looking for a better mousetrap. Is it specific to Canada or can I get it in the States, and if so, where? Thanks

I actually meant liquid wrench, not WD40. There are so many similar products out there that do the same thing.

Cut the thing off and buy another-if its that difficult to remove, it probably should be replaced anyway (my opinion).

That was my 1st thought as well, an inspection of the cable is needed

if its that bad, you need a whole new cable,
why risks clutch and tranny to a cheap cable. good insurance it is.
