Default 1995 Sidekick help please

Hi, new here!

I've read through most of the thread titles and alot of the threads but can't be sure what I am looking for is being addressed as I am a real newbie when it comes to cars!

Problem: my daughter has a 1995 sidekick 16v automatic. Lately when she drives it, it feels like it is really slipping on acceleration, and then it will jerk/buck like a bronco when tooling around town, but if you get it on the highway and get it up to speed, it rides pretty smooth. But it WILL lose power fast if you try to climb a hill and flooring it makes no difference.

Any one have anything to put on my list for the local mechanic to check? (we are out in the boons and getting to a dealer is pretty tough)

THANKS!! We have to leave for a funeral pretty quick so please don't think I am ignoring anyone or being rude if I don't answer a question or say thanks right away!!

give it a try...

Okay, As it is an automatic, please check the level of the
transmission fluid. While doing that, does the fluid smell
like burnt toast?
Has it had its transmission fluid/filter changed?
(slip/bang! is common symptom of low fluid).

We need to isolate this problem further, and eliminating the
the transmission from the list is a quick first step...

zuke is A1 correcto.

just on the input , sounds like a tune up as misfire is always , violent.

tuneup , with filters , all. (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, filiters. fluids)
then if it goes away , you are off cheap.

if RPM's (engine speed) rise fast and you cant go faster ,then the tranny is bad.
Slush pump diagnosis

one guy here , his car would go slow in turns. tranny slip.

if it is slip , its killing the trans.
if you have full fluid levels and it slips the bands are burning up.
do not drive a slipping transmision, unless you are rich.

AAMCO love you.

Back in the olden days (60's & 70's) if your transmission started slipping, you took it in for a transmission "tune up." They just changed the fluid and filter AND tightened the bands. Is it still possible to tighten bands or is such an adjustment no longer possible?

but its all word of mouth.
I bet on tune up.

i saw in consumer bs mag.
new cars need fewer tune ups.

i guess , fuilds , belts, filters , hoses, sparks, and wires(if you have em) all last for ever now.
