Where to find a 1996 Sidekick JLX 1.8L Mass Air Flow Sensor in Canada
Hey everyone,
I posted this in the Canadian forum, but no replies...so i decided to try in here.
Just recently my 96 Sport Sidekick suffered the P0102 (MAF sensor voltage low) engine code. We checked the dealer to see if they could get a hold of the part for us and it turns out that for the 1.8L engine, the MAF is a part of the throttle body and they told us that we'd have to replace the whole thing as they can only order the MAF/Throttle body. The part I need is bolted on the TBI unit and not in the air intake tube.
Now I'm on a search for this part and have had no luck finding any within Manitoba or Canada. For some reason parts for the JLX Sport are hard to get here
Does anyone know where I can find it in Canada, or even in the US? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!
that is correct 1.6L has in line pipe MAF and on 1.8L sports it is in TB.
that is confusing here, Sport = 1.8L engine with chain cam. DOHC too !
what do you reallly have.?
clean it first, blast it with CRC MAF cleaner. (plastic safe cleaner)
dont touch it. that hot wire, clean in , not running !!!
wrecking yards.
Ebay,
Suzuki has them, Geo Tracker has them. SUz PN:13420-77e00
TB , right side , forward is location, rear is TPS.
rockauto, = no
csk.com = yes, but wrong part is indexed, shows the 1.6L version. silly huh.?
look at TB, see screen there, look with powerfull lamp.
see if screen can be removed with out hurting it or its mount.
then spray the element on your left. keep cleaner straw back about 4 inches to force is not too great,
get it wet , count to 60 , do it again, ,repeat 3 times.
hoping the coke will soften and next spary will loosen it.
it has a very delicate hot wire , tiny. tread with care and it just might come back.
Thanks alot for the quick response it was very informative
I've checked the links and will see if i can get the part sent over (if mine still doesn't work after cleaning)
Ok...I just got a response from oemsuzukiparts.com about PN: 13420-77e00 and this is what they had to say:
That is the part number for the throtle position sensor. Suzuki does not service the MAF seperate. The part number is 13400-77EV0 and it is $804.97 and shipping would be around $40.00.
So I guess I have a pretty expensive repair coming up
id find a used one , some where,?? wreckers, or wrecker net.
that is way over the top.
correct:
my parts list shows it twice, same pn, as throttle body, and TB sensor assy.
sad huh.
car-parts.com has them on their net , $195, in canada, anex Search Results
you will need 96, other years are diff, it says in EPC.
we must validatate the failure, this is where most mech.fail.
many like to just swap parts and then you are out $1000+ for no gain.
this is electronics.
there are 3 wires on this sensor.
we must check all 3 to validate the failure.
did you know a bad oxy sen, can cause this failure?
ok , im sure the ECU will set code for this failure, but i do not trust ecu , in this matter.
i sent you engine1, and engine 2 prints in your PM.
note NODE E116 top left of engine 1.
this is a special ground buss.
it provides an sensed, accuate ground to many sensors. including the MAF.
it must read close to ground.
COnnect Volt meter neg. lead to battery Minus term or body of car.
connect VM Plus red lead to this ground E116 node. or better right at MAF sensor.
back probe the MAF connector. it must be near ground , max is 0.5v on most cars.
1/2 a volt. (not 5)
Gray/yellow Maf wire.
Next.
note the blue/black wire, it must have 12.65v at key on and rise to 14.7 as alternator charges batter. make sure voltage at this node is 12v , at least.
next and last.
the Gray black wire.
this is the actual MAF analog out signal.
VM black to ground or to E116.
connect VM red to Grayblack.
Key on, start.
vary the throttle as much as can running and observer the signal.
it must folllow the amount of air flowing in to the engine, if not it is bad the MAF.
i do not have calibration values on this sensor.
if you have an OBD2 full scan tool and the above voltage test pass , the do the below.
if the above power and ground voltage are bad, then you must find out which other sensor is fouling up the power, a shorted OXY sensor heater ,is common, unplug them both and retest the MAF, IT COULD BE GOOD, the MAF.
Using the scan tool, check the values displayed for "MASS AIR FLOW RATE." The airflow rate should be 0.20–0.53
lb. per minute (1.5–4.0 grams per second) at idle, and 0.66–1.32 lbs. per minute (5.0–10.0 grams per second) at
2,500 rpm.
If the values displayed by the scan tool do not match those specified, the MAF sensor is faulty; replace the
throttle body with a new one.
