Escudo NOOB neading Help with Timing Chain or Tensioners problem on a 1996 2.0L V6
Hi guys/gals, i have just bought a 1996 Escudo Nomade 2.0L V6 and have been told by a few different friends that the rattle i can hear from my engine is due to the Timing Chain and Tensioners need to be replaced.
Does this sound right?
If so, does any one have the correct part numbers for the V6 engine and roughly how much am i looking at to have the job done?
I have no idea about engines at all so any help would be appreciated.
I am currently living in Cyprus but would be happy for the parts to be delivered from anywhere in the world.
first off the EPC (ww suzuki cat shows no such engine in any escudo) 416 and 420 engines(both 4cyl)
but the Vitara has as a 620 engine.
and it has 3 chains, 2 guides for top chains and 3 guides, for bottom.
one must pull the front of engine and examine the parts for wear.
you might only need a chain and guide kit , or you might need a few new sprockets too.
who knows?
it would be best if you directed this quesiton to the nearest Suzuki dealer and he will look up your vehicle serial numbers to find out exactly what engine you really have.
i could give you the full pn list for a SV620 Vitara engine,
but I can not guarantee it is for your engine.
you did state the miles on engine ,
the parts cost could be $300 and the labor $500 here, or $200 else where's.
labor varies greatly region to region.
parts cost two vary by regions and echanges rates and shipping costs.
if you can not do this your self, the you are best advised to find the best mechanic you can find, and talk to him or her.
Also this noise could very well be something simple and cheap.
like:
bad bucket hydralic lifter , or just dirty.
bad clutch fan
bad alternator or power steering pump.
somethng loose, cracked exhaust.
They sure do have a 2.0 V6. All the parts you require are exactly the same as the 2.5 V6. So your dealer can supply these but say 2.5 as the 2.0 was Predominately JDM. A few were exported but the H20 engine run was very short. The H25 took over followed by the H27.
that is 90% correct, cept one thing.
I checked the SQ625 on both Vitara and Grand Vitara. and 620 .
all chains , same, all guides same.
top hyda, tensioner, same.
but the bottom left Hydralic tensior ( high failure) is a different PN.
625 ends in , 85FA7
620 ends in 85FA2
not sure the physical diff. but it has diff PN.
I think this person is not lookigg for PN, just wants to know $ damages.
I cant imagine owning a car that is not supported on the island, other serious online presents or phone support..
most of these cars are directly exported out of Japan, JDM as you say.
E01's in many cases.
Your comments on the tensioner number say they are different. This was correct at the time of release as the later part number followed on. The initial design seemed ok at the start but as the numbers grew, then problems forced the uograde. As to why chain problems occur, it has a common concensus here, that it is design that leads this way. The chain is too light and too long. I recall the B27 Renault, Peugot,Volvo V6 had alot of hiccups also put down to the long chains. The length of the chain is not always a problem but they should be duplex. Single row just doesn't cut the mustard.
It is really a design fault.
there are 2 TSB on this,
replace the following part.
lower left corner , and it says do not replace anything else.
they failed early and was revised 2 times , last revision 2004..
hard part is getting old glue (sealant) off and new on. (the cover)
fun.
good news , is this is cheaper. 1 part, and lots of scraping.
the cover back on and sealing cost, will be more than the part.
labor scraping like a mad man.
Thanks for the replies so far, but like I mentioned Im a complete idiot where engines are concerned.
My problems are as follows:
1. I am from the UK but am currently living in Cyprus and as the Suzuki is an Escudo and imported from Japan then the main dealers will not provide support for it easily( they are quoting more money than the car is worth to source the parts).
2. I have found a local mechanic/garage that will do the work for me but they cant get hold of any parts on the Island.
Thus, I need the part numbers for all of the parts so I can either buy them from the UK or Ebay or somewhere and get them shipped over to me.
