Ok to start out the problem child is a 92' geo tracker with 1.6L tbi 8 valve, just replaced head after complete valve job, along with timing belt, tune up including plugs wires cap (rotor was still like new) fuel filter(original) air filter, t-stat (had the hood open so what the heck).
i bought this car for 800 bucks to drive to school and back (140 miles round trip 5 nights a week) so i figured it would save me alot of money, now my question really starts here...when i start my car in the mornings it cranks and and idles fine goes through both modes, but when you start out it hesitates never backfires just acts as though i just taped the brakes, the o2 sensor looks to be stock i took off egr valve cleaned it really good, it will almost die when you push the diaphram in so thats not it, OOOOO i did also cut the cat out about 4 months ago, now it smells as if it is running rich, the PO said he was getting over 30mpg now all i can manage is 25mpg(grandpa mode) so whats the deal?
P.S. why does this car only have one O2 sensor shouldn't it have one after cat...i thought it would be ok to cut the cat cause of no sensor after cat, am i right

I have the same problem with my 92 tracker 8v 1.6. I did half of what you have done and still having problems.
I have not checked the CEL yet. I still have the orginal o2 sensor also. Once my tracker warms up the problem goes away until the next morning. I will go by auto zone and see if any code errors.

I don't think Autozone can help with an '92, only 96 and up. You'll need tho check the codes with the CEL.
mistake 1 is removing the cat.
in this year, only 1 Oxy sensor and NO CAT MONITORS like all 96 and newer have.
you didnt say what part of planet earth you are on?. but we gets posts from Canada, USA, UK, AZ, NZ , and even China here. ( some have no cat E01 cars they are called)
52 models and a bunch of ECU's.
but generally this is what happens.,
day 1:
cat off. back pressure drops to almost zero .
the is detected at the EGR MOD valve , next to TB.
see it?
it has 3 nipples.
vac IN, vac out to EGR and Exhaust pressure monitor.
so if you disconnect or rod out the cat the device will NEVER open.
then the ECU will detect this fact and go to limphome mode.
with retarded timing and very rich mixtures( it thinks its saving the planet from NOX pollution, and my be) but the MPG is shot.
also , you have changed the VE , of the engine, this makes the fuel maps wrong from 2k out to 6k.
VE is volumetric efficiency. a fancy word for, the ability to pump air.
you have increased it . VE is now magically higher and ECU is clueless to your change.
sounds good till you discover the fuel maps are fixed in ROM.
car can go from rich to lean , depending on how bad and when the EGR Fail is a issue.
solution , many here report , putting a high flow cat on the car and it works.
personally why fight a $60 cat repair. it is a required device in this Country and
the engineer , did not allow for its removal ,as the EGr MOD valve proves.
what i just said applies to USA export model cars only, what you have is unknown, unless you car to tell me your ECU PN and the exported country of delivery. Export codes , are E03, usa, fed, E33 calif. E28 Canada, open hood, see white sticker, see code. or words.
"this vehicle meets the reqirements of xxxx countries, emissions laws. bla bla...." what is XXX , dont ask VANA White , hahahah
cheers.
on the 8V any air leak results in High RPM.
how is WIDE OPEN Throttle performance under full load
same for hot and same for cold engine ?
flog the dog, how she do,
I bet ok. but you have flat spots that is where the ECU is mixing too little fuel because
of the VE being way off,
Keep in mind the Maps sensor is scaled against the VE TABLE IN THE ECU.
so you are flowing more air the the MAP can account for . see?
FYI:
A 16v can better account for this type of mod but it too has problems at certain low speeds with the cat cut off. (MAF works best above 2k)
