Default Gearbox/clutch problem?

I can't seem to put my manual transmission to work. First I had a whine somewhere, then it started to have shifting gears occasionally, then driving to work, I couldn't shift anymore... It's supposed to be in neutral, but it's on forward... help, again!!

93 jlx 5sp ( 4wd ?)

does the clutch work ok?
eg: clutch engaged car moves, clutch dis-engaged, car dont move.
tranny :

if you siezed anything in there ,it will never shift right again.
bearings, forkes, or gears.

does? tranny have full oil. up to side lip on side plug (forward) do not touch bolt to rear of side fill plug !

didnt you post before , that you had horrible whinning noise?, if yes, then tranny is now siezed as that is what all bad bearings do.

hope it is salvageable.

cheers

Yes, its a JLX manual 5sp... I managed to take it home, seems its on 5th gear? not other gears, not even reverse. Clutch works fine, gear shifter off, meaning its forward, maybe one gear on all 1-5th, plus reverse.

Checked out the transmission, lot of black oil on the bottom. I'll have to look for one. How do I take it off? Bolts on motor and take off shaft as a neighbor told me?

drain all lube from tranny and transfer case (4wD ?)
now mark first , then remove all prop shafts. ( make them so they go back same spot on axle pinion shaft flanges.

then pull speedo cable. and all gear shifts , both 5sp and 4wd.
wood block behind dizzy.
drop tranny crossmember. then tranny jack holding tranny up.
Member is off.

heck Ill send you the full manual later.

see you PM mail. for link.

with the manual from jtgh it will be fairly easy. it will be dirty & time consuming but simple enough. i just had my tranny stuck in 4th & wouldnt come out for nothing see here http://www.suzuki-forums.com/suzuki-...tml#post131107 following manual i replaced 3 & 4 syncronizer also known as high speed hub. 1st time in my tranny & its all back together now & running great.
if you have time & patience youll get it done & save yourself alot of $.

ps if you have digital camera take lots of pics so you know where everything goes

there are 3 good hints, all , in my tranny journal.
1: main shaft, pull gears 1 at a time, put on broom stick , washer and all are not reversable.
2: there are 2 hidden lock ball zones. do not force these follow the manual instructions.
3: before touching the tranny top main shaft ,measure the 2 gap zones with feeler gauges.
when using the press to put back , be sure to set gap to the same.

very easy , top split tranny , it is dream 5sp. really.
Kinda like motorcycles , that spit horizontally , also are easy.

8 hours labor on car and 2 or 3 on tranny if parts are in box.

at $1500 for a rebuilt , i dont even blush as a full rebuild kit. $125-200.

you need the special case caulking cement , It can be had, this Japanese silcone cement.

cheers

one last tip
there is a hidden bolt , under shift extension housing.
that must be removed before case splits.
