Hi My name is Dave and I'm new here and need some info. Someone gave me a 96 tracker 16 v that set for 4 years and now has no compression in the cylinders. I figured the rings are stuck from rust so I'm letting it sit with Tranny fluid in the cylinders to see if I can free them up. It ran when parked but had a small under hood electric fire That did very little damage except to the coil and such. The timing is on and I'm sure its not 180 out. I found an 8 valve 1.6 with low miles on it for $175 and I was wondering if my intake from the 16v engine will bolt on and work on the 8v? Also how much less HP does the 8v have compared to the 16v? OK after further testing I found its not leaking around the rings but it is leaking back through the intake valves on all cylinders. I did an air leakdown test on all four and all four when the valves are closed I can hear air leaking through the intake plenum. Any Ideas why this is happening? Could it be that the valve seats are rusty? If so is there any fix without taking the head off?
