The use of a thicker weatherstrip is certainly an excellent way to seal the front of a soft top. For those interested in applying a shim to the latch, here is the plan: .

This was the fix for my leaking hard top (cockpit cover part). I made a couple of the shims you described from 1/4" plastic and installed them. No more air leaks at the front coners. Thanks again, -Ed
