Default 98 Tracker AC question

Hey guys I'm having some trouble with my 98 tracker's air conditioning unit and I suspect it's the expansion valve. Can anybody give me an idea of the physical location of the valve in the system and under the hood?

The TXV is the point in the system where the liquid line, turns from warm to cold. Follow the small line up the the firewall, if it stays warm then its inside.

I've got a 96 that I'm wanting to find the expansion valve too. I take it that it's inside but how to you get the air box apart to get too it?

Expansion valve is attached to the evaporator within the evaporator case, both of which are buried behind the dash.

How do you get it apart? I have a Haynes manual for the 96 and it says nothing about the expansion valve or evaporator. I have a 92-93 tracker manual and it doesn't either.

you have to open the Freon loop to do that. you want to open the loop?

how do you know its the expansion valve.

state symptoms and get answers.

here is my page that will help
air-conditioner-repair

does compressor pump engage.
is it short cycling.
is it freezing the core (evap)
is the front fan running.
is the loop above 30 PSI ( or better at spec)

tell us.

The compressor locked up so I got another compressor, drier & expansion valve. I flushed everything so far but the evaporator. That's why I'm asking how to get to the expansion valve. Nether manual I have tells anything about the evaporator-epansion valveand how to get to them or how to disable the airbag. The valve may be ok but since I'm into it this far, I don't want to take a chance it's got trash in it. That's why I want to change it to.

Remove blower motor case fr RHS, loosen fresh/recirc air control cables, wiring harness from blower case, discharge and recover if you have any refrigerant in system, disconnect neg batt cable, remove pass side air bag (2 phillips screws on each side are a pain to remove, esp. LH one), relay bracket, evap in/out pipes at firewall, evap case mtg nut near same, loosen/slide metal evap/heater band onto heater case, loosen evap case drain hose, air bag harness around evap case, 2 evap case upper mtg bolts, separate the case halves, remove the expansion valve, and it's miller time. Actually, better to start w/ air bag after disconnecting the battery as it will give you a bit more room. I think its a good idea to change the blower mtr resistor too while everything is apart.

Hi,

I just "fixed" the AC in TheZuke!

In the event that someone else will search this forum
for a similar problem.

While I was checking the 25 Amp A/C fuse near the
battery, I noticed a loose yellow/ blue wire hanging down between
the engine and fender. It had a single spade-type
socket terminal on it. After a number of minutes of
searching, I found an empty spade where the
radiator hose connects to the block.

Yep! that fixed it!

I'm not sure how it separated in the first place.
