Gday all, i'm currently researching pistons and conrods to rebuild a G16B with an 8.5:1 compression ratio, using forged internals for strength.
It seems everyone uses a Honda D16 crank and then has custom rods and pistons made to suit, however I would like to use the standard crank. I was wondering if anyone knew of someone who has, or has themself, rebuilt a G16B with forged bits and if so, would you be willing to share info on the specs?
Btw I pretty much need everything; gudgeon pins, piston rings, bearings etc.
The Honda crank is forged and has solid journals unlike the Suzuki crank. You only need the Honda crank if you are revving above the 6500RPM reline and/or pushing 300HP. The block must be machined for clearance and the Honda girdle must be used requiring a custom oil pan. As for a forged internals alot of people custom order from JE, Crowner ect.. Some places list them for Suzuki Exotic/Other- Suzuki Swift Racing Parts - Performance Parts by Suzuki Racing Development . Some people use internals from different engines TeamSwift • View topic - G series specs database - put in your info here . I don't know what kind of power your shooting for but I would recommend ARP head studs if you don't already have them and you'll defiantly need either a multilayer metal or copper head gasket if running over 10 psi.
Cheers for the reply and the info, mate.
I've got 130hp on 10psi atm on stock motor, got another motor just sitting there and I thought I might build it up nice and strong with low comp, copper head gasket etc, hopefully hit 160hp with a bit more boost. Not that i'm stressing it atm but hopefully this way i'll never have to doubt the motor.
The Turbo GTI Swift has the G13BB engine and does use forged crankshaft and rods but the G13BB engine has a different bore a stroke than both the G16 and the G13B. Also I'm pretty sure that the G13BB crank doesn't fit the G16 because the main journals are a different size and spacing. But the G13BB has it's weakness to specifically rod bolts. Also the G13 block doesn't fit the Sidekick transmission directly.
I'm trying to find details on using the D16 crank in G16 motor. I see that the D16 crank has slightly larger main journals and it sounds as though they can simply be ground down to fit the block, but I have not heard anything about the fit of the flywheel or if the timing belt cog will fit. I haven't actually seen any post stating that they were able to successfully perform the swap, not sure if it is speculation. Also, if I recall correctly, there wasn't any info posted on the width differences of the connecting rods between the two cranks; not sure if I can use the Suzuki rods or if I have to use the Honda rods. my preference is to perform the crank swap now and later swap out for forged rod and pistons as I have a lot on the plate now with Sami engine swap to deal with also. Does anyone if the swap has been performed and what the caveats are?
I have a G16B Motor from a 1992 Suzuki Swift GLX 1.6 4WD saloon (looked like a mini Sapphire Cosworth). Are any of the bottom end components different?
