Each one is sold individually-always good insurance to change them with a new hub. There is no front or back direction-only on fifth gear keys. You will read a lot about the virtues of used parts, which is exactly what they are. If you like the car and want to keep it, don't use 'em. Also, replacement reverse gears are an improved design-they have twice the engagement surface. Just a thought if yours is ground up and you want to do a bit more.
i realize its only the hub & sleeve as i said earlier thought it came together.
im not doing this alone i do have a neighbor who works on heavy machinery who says this is the smallest one he's worked on.
the 3 synchronizer keys look in good shape but as suggested i probably will purchase those as well.
the input shaft looks good also.attached is photo hope its at angle your looking for

do you know if this part is something most suzuki stores keep in stock?
id love to get these parts tommorrow
thanks

I suggest you call Keith Sexton, the parts dept. manager at Southwest 800-256-7933. Try the Ford side first-he's usually not on the Suzuki side. Looks like your input shaft is NFG at the pilot bearing end-it should be a uniform diameter from the forward end to the splines. If you put the pilot bearing on the input shaft surface (although the photograph is at an angle) it looks like it will wobble around which is not good because if the input shaft is not properly supported it will eventually break off. If this is a widows and orphans situation, you may skate by by driving the pilot bearing foreward a bit in the flywheel, using the unworn portion forward of the existing wear area as a guide for depth. Probably best to take off the flywheel so you know exactly how far you can move the bearing forward in the flywheel without losing support for the bearing itself, mebbe even taking it out all together and putting it back in w/ green loctite (which is a sleeve locking compound). Most outfits don't stock anything anymore for older units. Southwest, by virtue of its business from the internet is one of the biggest and has the best pricing levels. Takes a bit of time is all. If you're in a hurry, your local will most likely have to order what you need anyway.

now your talking, ( my comment was to all readers, some dont know there really isnt a 4th gear, and one of the fine beauties of a Gear box , efficiency wise....)

I was told by above source that this part (input shaft) is now one part in the tranny that
is in short supply. get em' while you still can.

they get destroyed by people driving with a bad clutch.
Its $150 and probably worth that if soon to become, Unobtainium.
GM might have a supply too.

I jumped at the chance to get mine.
crawled thru many junkyards, and ebay and craigs listed partings out only to find them all bad (on the clutch end or the gear was overheated.)

good luck.

Happy trails.

PS: i wouldnt try to milk the imput shaft , cuz when the milks out, the tranny is KIA.

I think there are 3 Suz. warehouses and all parts come from there , in 3 days or less.

I have ordered many things from Kieth , some you would think are impossible for a 91.
but no, i got , vents, and plastic covers , trim, tranny parts, etc.
even that silly clip on door window frame at 11 pm. Yah !

it is best to have a real parts list to make ordering less a hassle.
you can get a rebuild kit from at least 2 suppliers.
on has syncros and bearings (ball) other has syncros bearings ball and roller.
a partial kit is $125 a full kit is $200 (IIRC)
cheers

keep in mind all these parts were made with beforer Peak oil, dollars, dirt cheap. what a deal.

A note in passing: if and when these input shafts become obselete, any crankshaft repair shop can, for a fee of course build up the undersized portion and then restore to original diameter, using undamaged part of the nose as an exemplar. OEM input shaft/4th gear is now $165.00.

ok after researching ALL day yesterday i found out my broken piece is a "3rd&4th gear synchronizer hub". GM wants $156 + tax & ship Suzuki $139 + tax & ship.
a bit more than what im willing to spend considering the age & miles on vehicle (1992 180,000 mi) i understand i could get close to 300k from this beast & well ill drive the poop out of it, & see what i get. i did find a used hub for $30, i know with used your taking chances but i believe i will have good fortune with it. i am considering buying a tranny from boneyard (found a different yard) for under $100(wed being half price day).

thanks for all your help

used is ok, just look at it for damage.
look for the gear having a blue tinge ,a bad sign of overheating,
I got 2 here that are garbage. each one has a bad end. or the other end.
all the power of the engine goes thru that little gear , all the time in gear, clutch is out.
A tranny pro , will tell you to replace gears is pairs. ( the break in and remain quiet)

rebuilds are 1200 to 1500
tranny kit is 125 -200
new front gear 139.
such a deal. lots of choices , now.

Another note in passing: A lot of these input shafts look bad, and it's unpleasant to think of one of those turning around while you're tooling down the road or rock climbing but I'd bet no one has ever had one of these actually break off. Or have they?

not unless the front tranny bearing , siezes or some other inside , in gear at speed.

anything really, is possible if sounds it makes are ignored.
