Hi all, I am new to this forum after buying a 1996 suzuki vitara 2.0 v6.She is on a p plate and is in very nice condition, the only problem i have is that the steering goes hard when i turn, sometimes its a little hard and sometimes its very hard. Does any one have any ideas. Many Thanks Jonny.
Hi Jonny...I am also new and these guys are good...they should get you squared away!
Not knowing any more information...I'd check for belt slippage on the PS pump (check belt tension). I'd also check backlash in your steering gearbox (have someone turn the steering wheel while you look at the pitman arm for movement, try to see how much play there is in the assembly). Other obvious checks would be pitman arm joint bind due to excessive play, and tie rod end wear. Outside chance of ball joint problems, but not likely.
