Default NOISE / whining

Just put new wheel bearing and seals in the front of my 91 Geo Tracker 4x4 5 speed and now I am hearing a whine in the right front wheel, sounds like the bearing is dry but the bearing were packed really good and I cant see any reason for a noise like this? Seems to be worse around 45 mph... Anyone know what this could be? Thanks,

Did you properly torque the axle nuts?

IIRC, these are supposed to be ~130 ft/lbs and you have to use the correct socket.

It's not cheap ... Automotive Tools & Equipment - Product Search - Criteria: J-37763

Don't try hammering on the pin holes, you cannot get the necessary torque.

Thanks! No I did not have that tool, I have always used a punch and hammer and have never had problems so Im sure all the other time have just been luck, now I have to find someone in my area that has the special socket. Thanks for the reply and the picture of the socket!..

That tool is expensive, but worth it in the end. I looked at spending the money versus making a tool myself. If quickly found it wasn't worth my time. I was still money ahead after I purchase the tool, and have used it more than for just the one job on my vehicle. The right tool makes the job sooo much easier!

wow , you punched it up?
With the special tool , torque the Lock ring #18 to 123-180 ft/lbs. Tool # J-37763

This torque setting is most critical.
I increased the torque to 170 lbs/ft , from 123 until the locking ring screws aligned.
OR

you could have a bad caliper.
a cracked disc rotor.
a bad CV joint.
