So, I recently acquired a nice dark green 98 Tracker with the 5 speed manual and the 16v. With a bit of help from my friend, tossed on some nice BFG All Terrain tires. It's been a ton of fun to tool around in the hills with, although, I've been finding it a bit lacking for on road power in 4th gear. So, I've been looking at doing some basic engine modifications to it, Cam, and Header and such. I've already picked a header, a nice Thorley Tri-Y chrome set, but the question is, what cam would you recommend? I'm still going to be using it as a daily driver, which is why I want a bit more get up and go, because the area I live in is rather hilly.
Nah, these tires wouldn't be the problem, they're just barely above what was on there to begin with. One of the reasons I went with them is so I wouldn't have the problem of slowing down due to HUGE tires trying to be turned. I just, don't have the power to climb up some of the large and long hills in 4th.
What size of tires do you have on there now? If you can't climb the hills (looks like Peace River?) in 4th, that's not good. Let alone 5th. My little 91 2 door seems to have plenty of
power but of course it's not nearly as heavy as yours, and we don't have much for hills down closer to Edm.

True, yours weights more than a 2dr. I installed a Calimi header which helped a small amount, although it did help with MPG. Not being a smart butt, when you read that you can achieve 7% increase, please remember that 7% of 92hp is less that 7% of a 200hp engine.
Sometimes you have to "row" the shifter, I do here in western NC. Just be glad that you don't have an auto trans!

Haha, wow, that's a damn good guess. Yeah, I'm up here in Peace River. I can climb the hills, I just can't keep the thing at the speed limit of 80 in it. If I start off at about 100, then I can usually be at around 80 by the time I crest the hill.
Yeah, I know header won't be a solve all, but I mean, every bit helps, plus, on top of that, I'm going to be doing a full exhaust system too.
So, on a side note, the local RCMP in town had one of those, monitor your speed things, you know the ones, with the big numbers showing how fast you're going and what the speed limit is? So I decided to see if the tires would mess up the speed that much, and decided to roll through at 50 on the speedo, turns out, I'm only out by about 2-5 kmh, so, the tires obviously aren't the problem =P
After that run, I went back through and tried to get a high score
