Default 97 Geo Tracker Oil Leak

So I hear this is a common problem for the most part but it's also cause I've driven this baby 40,000+ miles since November so I expect stuff like this.

In the milage of driving I've kept up on all the oil changes & going easy on the RPMs.

BUT when I went to get my clutch replaced I had the rear main seal fixed & now it's coming from the front main seal.

Is there any way to fix this without taking out the transmission again?
or
Does anyone have a different transmission installed just because of frequent oil leaks?

THANKS FOR ANYONE'S INPUT CAUSE WITH GAS PRICES NOW A DAYS.... HAHA

you mean front crank seal or front pump seal of the trans. the front crank seal is in front of the engine where the crank pulley and timing belt is at and the front pump seal is the seal in front of the trans. which yes you have to pull the trans. off again.

he said clutch, so i guess ? he has a 5sp?
before guessing on leaks. it is always best to:

1 clean the engine and tranny.
2 drive 10 mile and examine all carefully.
3 repeat 2 until you find the real leak.

guessing can be very expensive, and no the tranny will not leak if:
1: the front and rear bearings are good and the seals are good.

Windage under car will fool anyone into guessing wrong !!!

anytime you pull a tranny 5sp always change the rear engine seal , ( get that High Qual version they sell ) and glue it in using that special suzuki sealant.
called out in the FSM.

that rear seal can pop out , all to easy on kicks ( a weak link there)

so exactly what 97 do you have, ? 1.6L , 1.8L 4wd ? 2door , 4 door?

the best advice is , the problem can be simple and cheap,
make very sure where the source of the leak acually is coming from.
It can really fool you.

Tell what engine and you will get way better answers.
what drive line do you have.

cheers

Sound advice, as usual.

My question now (I also have some slow oil and coolant leaks I need to track down, as the weather improves and I get more motivated to hang around outside tinkering...) is how and where exactly one would go about cleaning the engine and tranny...

Simple Green, a stiff nylon brush, and a hose? Are there any parts of the engine one wouldn't want to hose off and get water all over? Is the stuff that comes off (all oil and coolant and grime mixed together) something I'd want to keep out of the storm sewers which drain straight into fish habitat? And where would one go to do the cleaning where the goo would be treated properly? Or would the best option be to take it to a professional and have them do it? In which case, where would one find such a professional and how much might they charge for their services?

97 5spd 2 dr 4x4 1.6L 16Valve

The rear main seal was replaced but I just found out it's leaking MOTOR OIL & it's just dripping near the drain plug for the Transmission....I think it's coming from the passenger side.

Any Options? I know it's kinda vauge but Thanks

Like I said below I just found out it's leaking motor oil.....would there be a typical location where it wouldn't be sealed?

i think jtgh is right......do some cleaning around the area that is leaking, drive it a little to recreate the leak and you will find exactly where the leak is coming from.

Default if it is the oil pan gasket??

I have a 92 geo tracker 1.6 8v in a 2 dr 4wd rag top with a 5 speed.
The oil pan is leaking.

The manual is saying that you need to pull the front dif to get the pan out.

I was going to give her a 4 inch lift.

Has anyone done a lift on these trackers and does it give you enough clearance to sneak that pan out ?

thanks
