Default 1999 vitara 2.0l 4v 4door 4wd : Timing belt or Chain?

As my owner's manual says, I have to change my timing belt soon because I've just hit 160 000km.
When I called the Suzuki dealer's parts departement, I've been told that my vitara doesn't have a belt but a chain....

Who's wrong?

Another question, my catalytic converter seems to be clogged and I went to Canadian Tire to know how much it would cost to change it and the women told me that they would replace it with an "universal catalytic converter"...
I don't know much about cars but I doubt that a swift would have as much air flow trough the exhaust as a 5.0l truck or even my 2.0l vitara.
Am I wrong about it or I should replace it and I won't lose power?

Thank you and have a nice day
(I'm sorry for my english)

Default

SQ420L OR Q ARE both chains 99.

no belt for cams
if you get any noise, change the guides and tensoners, before problem cascades $$$
cat,
there are in fact generic certified cats, even in RP of California.
they come is Displacment ranges and input and output pipe sizes.

your cat can be easily tested for back pressuer by any confident mechanic.
he removes the front oxygen sensors, puts on a simple 15psi pressure gauge and
looks at the back pressure at 2500 RPM, should be less than 6 psi.
3 would be super good.

whether it works or not is another matter all together.
99 has a smart ECU, if it is happy , then then the Cat is not bad.
this ECU monitors the oxygen level on both sides of this cat.
if the profiles are off , it will throw p0421 (irrc) .

do you have a lost of power above 2k.Rpm?
is the check engine lamp on?
is the CEL lamp glowing while running engine?
do you have any symptoms, both hot or cold engine?

tell more.
