vitara 1.6 8v starting problem

hi all have just bought a vitara jlx 1.6 8v 1993 uk spec (carb) when i start it the engine idles at 2500 rpm for 2 mins until engine warms up this cannot be right can someone confirm this please also the thing dosent like to start very easily when hot it turns over a few more time then seems to be on two cylinders then three then four in the space of a few seconds i have replaced the ht leads, plugs,air filter,cap and rotor this has helped a bit. the timing was checked on a warm engine at 1000 rpm with the vacum advance attached and it was +20 deg this was then adjusted to +8 deg this is what the mechanic says this should be.

has anyone else had this problem before and can offer me any advise thanks jodyn and sally

its a carb.
lilke all carbs , the choke is stuck on and the chock fast idel cam is holding the throttle open.
easy to confirm this, pull Air cleaner and look at carb, now warm up engine.
blip throttle every 5 mins, and soon the chock MUST open fully vertical.
if it does not the the choke is bad and you need a newone.

i see some have manual choke too, wow. aint seen one since me 61 chev PU.

that is my guess, but it could be something else in the carbi.
