Vitara td slow start and smoke

I have a 97 vitara 1.9 td which I am having yet another problem with. When starting it takes ages to turn over, the emgine turns over fine but it take a while to actually fire up, when it does it kicks out a huge amount of smoke but then continues to smoke while im driving, the smoke is sometimes black and others grey. It has had a full head rebuild, new glow plugs, and all the filters changed but yet its still the same. Can anyone help

it's a diesel, take it to a mechanic who knows your injection system,etc.
you didnt say what area of the earth you live so we must guess what type of injection you have.

is see a Europe TD 1.9 with a cog drive cam, (it could slip. with bad effects)
i see a mech. injection pump,
i see a thermostatic valve on said pump, ( bad it could be)
i see a glow plug pre heat unit, Glow plug brains, that could be bad.
you have an EGR valve that could stick open robbing oxygen for running.

you need a person how understands the above mechanical injection system.
