Cool Bleeding brakes on a '96 Tracker

New owner. The Chilton manuel says that you need a code reader in order to re-set the ABS unit prior to bleeding the brakes. Would that be necessary just to change the old fluid out and replace it with new? I have a 4x4 2 door soft top if that makes a difference.

expensive tool ABS scan is :
One way to above this is to just suck out all the fluid in the MC (cept 1/4 inch above bottom hole) with a turkey baster. do it every 1 month for 2 months.
this gest most of the fluid. I do this ever spring on all cars.

On some cars , if you have ABS , one must envoke special commands to the ABS unit.
not all cars, and I am not sure about this year kick.
some cars you just bleed furthest to shortest and you are ok.

most , it is very bad to get air in front of modulator unit. if you do you may have to send a command to the ABS to shake the valves while bleeding. Bleed mode.

I have a friend that made this mistake on a dodge van and had to tow it to a dealer
to get the air out. (duck)

Some one here, has the 96 FSM and can quote the rules on this car.

Finding a Scan tool that supports ABS on a Suzuki might be hard. be careful, ask questions specific to application.

I would never believe a word any Haynes told me, as they mix up cars and years, like a witches brew. Very bad they are . How ever their comment could be correct.
The FSM is the law. on ABS and on Airbags. (nothing trivial )

dig deap:
Scanner Air Bag/ABS OTC3761

Let us all know the results. on ABS. bleeding on 96s.

The 96 FSM says: Tool required, TK-0-A-TECH 1 Scan tool.
Rehome procedure: (whatever that means)
1. Using a Tech1, select F5 MOTOR REHOME. The motor rehome function cannot be performed if current DTCs are present. If DTCs are present, the vehicle must be repaired and DTCs cleared before performing the motor rehome function.

2. The entire brake system should now be bled following either "Pressure Bleeding" or Manual bleeding procedure. Tracka96

special procedure , i suspected it.
I dont have 96 manuals.

but is common on many cars and trucks.
how ever some are exempt from specail rules and procedures.
and some companies make pulse boxs that connect to ABS modulator so you can purge air from the system.

but Mr. Murphy is always there , needling us.
