Default Hello from PA and a radio question

Hello, my name is Alan and I just bought a 1994 Geo tracker 4x4 with a 1.6 engine and auto trans. I got a great deal on it. One of the problems I have come across is the radio won't work. I think it may be a security code problem. I asked the previous owner if she knew the code. She didn't have any idea what I was talking about.

On the right side of the radio there is a digital display. The only thing it shows is ..ERR9. I have a owners manual and tried to set it. I cant get it to let me even start to program it. I followed what it said to do in the book and nothing happened. It stays ERR9.

I am going to pull it out and check some wires then probably look for a new radio if nobody here has any Ideas on it.

You guys have a nice forum and I am sure I will be coming here a lot now that I have one of these sweet little rides.

mfg
model number of radio would help

contact the mfg, or go to their web site, and see if they publish PDF manual on radio.
if not , it might be landfill radio.

YOud be surprised what you can find buy doing good searches on MFG and model #

my FSM only shows how to remove radio.
nothing more.
I suspect if your radio is factory , you can tell that by looking at the front and rear.
if it is, then there is a suzuki manual just for the radio.
I just looked at the operators guide and it is useless too , in this regard.

tell more, get more help;
cheers

Congrats on your new Tracker, ssanoobab.

Have you tried disconnecting the power cable from the back of the radio unit (or, alternately, disconnecting your car's battery) for a few minutes? Maybe it will lose its memory.

Also, like jtgh suggested, trying googling the mfg name and model number. You might find a page or post by someone with the same radio who figured out a fix for that problem.

Have fun with your new Tracker!

I did disconnect and reconnect the power. That had no effect. I removed the radio. checked the plug for power, it was good. I reinstalled the radio and got the same msg on the screen ...Err9.

I got the brand and model number it is...Delco, model #30010113.

I searched the net for info. I did find some stuff that seemed like it should help but After I tried it nothing was different.
I am thinking the radio if shot. I will just get a replacement and be done with it. I found this one on Ebay it is the same as mine. If that doesn't work I will get a nice CD player from circuit city or somewhere.

better , buy a proper harness kit, that conv. suzi haness connector to the new standard type.

then buy a nice, CD /MP3 and Ipod input jack type. ( or even sat radio?)
this is very old unit and would be expensive to fix.
and a tank !

Glad to see it comes out with out special key.
-------------------here is factory unlock proc------------------
This is the process for the CD deck. I assume it's the same for any 88-90 deck with the DelcoLok system. It may also work with 90+ DelcoLok I units.

1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down. (mine were 881)

2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over). (mine were 322)

3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you hear this,
press 1 for chevy, followed by 02107and hit the * key. (i.e. 102107*) He'll ask you for the 6 digit code that you've written down.(mine was 881 322) Enter that and press the * key. He will then give you a code,(mine was 810 891)

4. To unlock the radio:

A. Turn the ignition on.
B. Press “SET” (000 appears on display).
C. Press “SEEK until the first digit of the code appears.

D. Press “TUNE" until the second and third digits
E. Press "AM-FM" (000 appears on display).
F. Press “SEEK” until the fourth digit of the code appears.
G. Press “TUNE” until the fifth and sixth digits of the code appear.
H. Press "AM-FM". Now the radio can be turned on.

The radio you're showing is a pre-97 Delco. '97 & '98 models are slightly different, with a better digital display, but fit just the same. It doesn't have a security code (which came after '99). It's a good radio, easy to use when driving. About $35.00 from most autowreckers, guaranteed to work. I recently bought one to replace a wierd Sony that came with my Geo. The hard part was replacing the Sony plug with an original Delco plug.

yes, the new radios are dangerous to use going down the road. "Menu's wow"
95 Delco:
be aware some radios have a hidden fuse in side.

I hope Err9 ,is the memory wire power not missing.(disconnected for fuse blown)

cheers

Update...................

First of all thanks for all the input. I bought the radio off E-bay. I ended up paying $5.25 for it plus 10 dollars to ship it. $15.25. I works like a charm and it is the exact same as my old one. The old one is in the junk pile

Thank Again
