When I got my 96 Tracker the turn signal/wiper part behind the steering wheel was broken, I got a used one from ebay, It is from a 96 and I replaced it, Ever since then sometimes I can start my Tracker and somtimes the Airbag light stays on and sometimes it don't but it's getting to the point where it stays on more then it's off what do you think it could be?
I understand not to be in front of an air bag, I've seen the force they have. I was mainly asking what you guys think it is, Do you think it is something major or minor?
I have a 1996 Tracker and my air bag light was staying on. I changed the SDM from a parts car I have and it went away. Shortly after it stared again and my horn will stay on when I press it if the ignition is on. I was told it was the clock spring in the multi switch that you have changed. Going to pull mine soon and replace it. Maybe you got a bad on on E-Bay.
As for the air bag there is a connector right of the steering wheel under the dash. Disarm as perscribed in the service manual and disconnect the inflator when working on it.
I'll post as soon as I complete the repair. Probably this weekend.
easy or hard.
i can tell you it is easy to repace the parts.
the parts are expensive.
I personally would never drive down the road with any Fleebay bag or (subs) pointed in my face.
i my opinion , test it per fsm , replace with new parts that test bad
or have a pro do it
or defeat it per the FSM.
no way fleebay, that is crazy.
anything but...\\
IMHO .
its all in the manual , ever bleedn word and the warings in bold repeated over and over.
there is good reason.
I didn"t replace the air bag it was the wiper/turn signal part and the one I bought from E-bay is a good one It checked out before I installed it, I don't have a munual for my 96 (YET...Ordered) so I don't know about all of the warnings, Just to be clear I was not going to work on it with power on it I really didn't plan on doing much other then maybe replacing a relay (If that was what was wrong) or something small if it turns out to be more then that I'll have a pro look at it. P.S. Sorry I didn't mean to upset anyone.
