Default hi all,noob with a ?

hello all.
i just picked up a 95 tracker 2wd 5speed with 178k for $900 this past monday.i bought it as a beater so i could rework my dodge neon, but i must admit i'm loving this little truck!
by what ive read they did some changes for the 95 model year, like mpfi, different air breather, and new top setup.
but mine has the tbi'ed 1.6 8v,so i'm guessing i have a 94 carry over.
my ? is:is there a way to verify that i have a 94 thats vin stamped as a 95?
i decided to drop some money into her,but what to make sure the parts i order are the right ones.

thanks all

I would keep the tracker and get rid of the neon. My brother had a dodge neon, and something major was wrong with it every year (Or every couple of months). He constantly had to keep putting money into it to get it fixed and it would stall out on him. He isn't the type that beats a car either. He sold it finally, and is now driving the nissan I was driving, but now I have a reliable little tracker so it's all good.

Most 94's were 16V multi point fuel injected and were introduced in 93 but as far as I know the 8V TBI was still offered and the last year was probably 95. There are various vin decoders on the internet that should help you. jtgh can probably clarify this.

Default codes.

8v is common. JX it is very common. 2dr
the geo vins are slightly diff, than suz.

code 6 geo is 16v GM /GEO
code u geo is 8v. same.
but engine year is letter after G16. same Geo and SUZ.

attached is pure suz, codes.
but the right side code works on all engines.

the 8v has less HP.
but it is more reliable and easier to diagnose.
you can view the injector injecting, a cool idea. hah.

that NEON , just sold sons Neon.
POS:

tricks, on NEon ,standing front of car . look rear.
look bahind right rear cylinder for leak at head block junction see anything.?
yes? oil ?
then pull this head bolt, rear right corner, (factory messed up , under bored this hole alowing bottoming of the bolt, very bad. just remove bolt cut off
1/8 inch or so and put back. to spec.torque.

next POS bug in Neon.
lift up on dash speedo head panel (whole thing opens like grand piano)
pull speed head , that's right it unplugs all at once easy as pie.
a few screws. then resolder all the back PCB points.

the idiots at Dodge etc used bare steel pins with out proper solder friendly plating of pins . I use that pink Kester flux and clean with alcohol.
this flux is corrosive but you have no choices on bare steel.
flux is a base not acid.
just clean it well after.

then all the guages wont fail. cooooooolllll

you also need a 7 ton press to put on damper pully for Tbelt , a real PITA.
on and off tool. double not cool.

yes, Neons are problematic. Dont get me started... hahahahah

cheers to all.

Congrats on the Tracker!

I purchased my tracker for the same reasons. Like you, I am having a great time with and am putting some money into it. I've got 30 x 9.5 x 15's on it now, and I'm still getting 23 mpg!

have a great time with it!
