Default A/T slippery when engine cold

Hello, I have a '89 Escudo 1.6 4wd A/T, but when I crank the engine and start driving, I get only 1st gear and won't shift to 2nd until a few minutes when the engine it's hot (normal hot); but if I reach around 3000RPM it slips and lose power (like get into neutral). But once it changes gears get all normal until next time the engine cool off. could be the vaccum modulator?.
PS.- Sorry about my english, I hope someone could understand any of this.

check level. (hot and in park after cycling gear shift) per op. guide.
pull dip stick , is it pink ,red , brown or black.
if not pink get power flush and new filter.

3sp or 4 speed which one is it.?

they are vastly different in operation.

cool 3sp. easier tranny no electronics cept tcc relay.

there are a whole bunch of things that can cause your symptoms.
on car checks.
1: clogged filter/or screen. pull pan and look.
2: weak pump or regulator. can be measured with a guage.
3: check the vac. mod. for proper ops and for leaks. and diagphram leak down test.
4: bad or dirty valve body.

that is a short list the FSM has a HUGE list with truth table.

if the filter is bad, the pump will starve, it starves the clutch packs will slip, if they slip they burn up.
so never drive any slipping tranny.
pay Avis or pay Amco more.

the 3sp has 15k filter service interval, (cheap trannies dump lots of garbage into fluid) 4sp is a cleaner transmission and requires far less service.

many many people report tranny came back after simple filter change (clogged up)
It has 1000 parts, and most are not optional.
