there are as many different power chips as there are stray dogs in town.
it could be a black box with a simple resistor , to fool the MAF or OXYgen sensor.
all the way up to main chip Prom (rom memory) that remaps EVERYTHING.
CHIP? ( as in cow chips?) hehehehe
the former are mostly useless as the ECU will re-learn the lie and correct with a new AFR. (Air fuel ratio)
In all cases like this, do your research, find a forum where someone tested it on a dyno.
not just 1 run as the ECU takes many runs correct long term and short term fuel trim.
eg:
dyno runs before chip
add chip
dyno run 2
then drive 2 weeks.
then back on dyno.
oops notice dyno run 3 = 1 , BS stops with data.
I think Pop. mechanics did a test 8 top snake oil devices and all failed in 05
if you really want to know, just tell us what it is and show the link.
answer is easy once the facts of what their little trick is.
now ask your self this. WHAT IS A CHIP.? ( answer, anything you want it to be)
so the question is meaningless , with out the WHO and WHAT.
The TURBO guys , are the ones that get the most mileage out of these techniques.
they are called interceptors and piggybacks.
all they are , are lier boxes.
A black box ,that lies to the inputs of the ECU AND/OR the outputs.
it can work and but the TRUTH is , "that the OEM ECU is the Limiting factor."
At some point one runs of of ECU RANGE and then the AFR goes lean and say good by engine. (during boost)
next they shop for Motec and all is well. ( except the melted pistons, that is)
Home
cheers.
read Jeff Hartmans book and stop guessing, its all there, and only cost $19 at any book store. ( i do not work for jeff or his marketeters, just amazed at the content and scope)
