What causes the block to crack???

I have a 90 Tracker that ran SO good for so long. One day I get out of it parked on concrete to see a puddle under rather quickly. Saw it was coming from lower right side of engine but alternator from bottom, intake from top blocking view. Took it to a guy who stuck a darn power washer in there to see better and got my map sensor ruined. Said it was block cracked to outside didnt cause much problems,told him to pull it,,,I was going to try a weld job,,,he gives up on it and brings it back home. I am trying to take it out BUT now he says it isnt worth it he found out long ago it is cracked into oil passage also,,,NOT just the water jacket. Would have saved me ALOT of work if he had told me,,,and not screwed up the map sensor and the coil wire and cap also,,,with the water. Question remains,,,why would the block suddenly crack??? It wasnt winter and antifreeze was good. Where is BEST and cheapest place to find a decent running motor from a donor?? is this a 'common' problem with these little babes??

make sure its not just a freeze plug rusted through.!
Get a antifreeze hyrdometer and check your protection every fall.
$2 device.

those two parts put in to your oven at home, set oven stat to 140deg.
put them in and dry them.
they will then work. use accurate thermometer.
set in the 120-140 range.
max temp on electronics is 85c (185F) so i use 130F to protect any plastic and is near hottest temp on earth (air).

i have dried many things out, and not thrown away $400 worth of parts.
