Default 96 Suz. Sidekick misfire when warm

Recent upgrades...

tune up
alternator
timing belt
O2 sensor

Was having issues with car cutting off when at a stop sign. Having following the issues mentioned above before and after repairs. It is jittery (misfiring) while driving around town. Symptoms occur when the car is warm, but not on the highway, only around town (stop and go).

Does this have anything to do with the throttle position sensor or EGR valve?

no check engine light glowing while running.? code P0400?

EGR sure, if it stick open a tad it will make low throttle problems.

engine dies at red light ?

sure sounds like EGR,
but can be many things,

The engine light was on, then off after repairs, now on again. I don't know exact code, but it indicated egr. Off at every stop almost unless I give it gas. Sticks and jumps. And no pick up. Terrible gas mileage. There are many different parts of the egr. Should I change them all?

EGR Vacuum Solenoid
EGR Valve
EGR Valve Gasket

what is it 96 1.6L or a 1.8L , big diff.?
yah, egr = P0400 code throw, very common. all cars. 96+

99.9% clean them , and its perfect.
replacing it all is about $500 .

Click my egr page;>>>>EGR

96: (and 97, no 1.8L sports, and no 90-95)

on above link clean the port shown on the last photograph on page.
see green tie wrap, make that happen. pass thru. see?

I put instuctions on the photo map, and red marks to show paths.

opps I missed one point.
see nipple called #45 , this metal tip has a very tiny oriface, just clean it out. (clogs so very easy)

Make sure that main valve does not have a carbon chunk in the valve holding it open. Very bad.

save $500 and just clean it.

We cleaned it and it definitely seemed to help. Still a little chug when going up hill. Haven't regained full power. But, the engine light is off now. Thanks!!! Could the chugginess have anything to do with the new o2 sensor?

no,not oxy.
CHUG ( is this bogs or flat spot)?
96, 16v , tune UP, cap, rotor wires and plugs
if that dont work then , check for vacuum leaks and then MAF ops last.

ask for MAF help. if you get that far.

cheers.

already did a tune up, cap and plugs, not sure about rotor wires. Think we did that though. Engine light came back on and she's cutting off at almost every stop again. Could it be that I need to clean egr more thouroughly? What about MAF?

pull your codes. (why wait, why be blind?, AZ does it for free)
pull actives and pendings !
actives light the light CEL, pendings tell what is bad but is less than
catastrophic. pending P0300's ?

you must change out the Cap and rotor and wires. together.
i know you replaced some, but they all must be changed.

that rotor if it carbon tracked, will ground out the High voltage to the center for distributor shaft. common as nails.
1 tiny thousands of an inch pin hole of carbon can not be seen.
we just throw them away. Old igntion parts.

codes?
Tune up full not half and not China junk , good stuff like NGK , DENSO , Bosch, never RED-STAR ! (no nonames)
if it still runs rough, make sure EGR is working and not stuck.
if it still runs rough , pull a full compression test,
and check the ignition timing, if it is off , then the cam belt has slipped. if it has slipped , it needs changing before the engine self destructs.

you did show location ,but if in usa, go to Harbor Freight and buy a $11 timing light. keep a watch on timing. #1 way to watch a Tbelt.

telling car type and general location on planet really helps.

there are 100 things that can cause poor driveablity,

powerloss

do the cheap and easy first.
then roll up sleeves for the stuff.

16v order that i do.
codes.
then I check ignition timing ( if it is off panic)
then compression.
if the timing is ok then tune up full , including a fuel filter.
bad fuel fiters destroy pefectly good fuel pumps. (and cost $$$)

hope that helps.
I dont know the maintenance history of this car so my answers are based on that. I assume the worse and accept less.
