Default still trying to run without alternator!

I had bough a used alternator, bought a wrong one. While trying to replace, the green plug didn't fit, so did a silly thing, cut it... then realized alternator is a wrong one. So now, replaced alternator belt at least, and the wiring with the green plug not connected, but the one with nut connected...will that cause problems? thanks. will try to order a new alternator sometime.

This will charge your battery from the b+ terminal but won't be "running" anything else as it is intended to do. By running it this way you are putting a heavy strain on your battery to run everything, so it will die a lot sooner. Try and source a plug to suit asap if you dont wanna fork out for a new battery.

that connector connects to the charge lamp
this lamp creates the initial excitation current for the armature coil.
without it , most cars alternators will be dead or malfuction in other ways. (idling ,etc)
spice it back. (easy huh?)
see schematic.

JTGH,

Can you help me out with the wiring on my 1997 Sidekick? I am trying to put things back in order after an engine swap, and also need info on the other "additional" wires coming off the alternator. The "B" terminal is the easy one, but I need to know where to connect the other 2 off the green plug. The wiring on the Sidekick I bought with the motor out was trashed, and I cannot find where the original charge light circuit should be hooked up...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Gary
