Default 94 Geo Tracker... replaced head, need help w/ distributor timing!

Hi all.

I have a customer's a 94 Geo Tracker. The head was cracked, so I replaced it with a junkyard unit. Transferred exhaust/intake manifolds and whatnot.

1.6L TBI auto.

Anyway, I finally figured out how to set the timing. Mitchell Shopkey is very non-specific when it tells me how to do so.

So I had to transfer the distributor as well.

I have the rotor pointing at the plug wire for cyl 1 on the distributor cap.

Cranks and cranks, doesn't even kick like it wants to start. I may have put the distributor rotor in the wrong way (it goes in one of three different ways). I see no markings as to which is the proper way it should go on. I have been working nonstop on this thing for three days hoping I can get it to start, no luck so far. I am at my wits end. Can someone please help?

OH, I have been using this for help:

</title></head>"); newWindow.document.writeln("<body><div align='center'><img " + getWidth("yes") + "src='/images/cds/" + tpe + "/" + sze + "/" + pc + "." + tpe + "'></img></div>"); newWindow.document.writeln("<div align='center'><table><tr><td><FORM

But I'm still stumped. If there's someone out there that can please lend a hand (or ear, rather) I'll gladly post my phone number. Thank you very much.

here you are, found you.
94 8 valve ,new head.

assuming all is well and that head is not warped (always check that before bolting it down)
1: loosen all valves lifters.
2: follow the factory procedure for setting up cam timing. (i have em)
3: follow the factory proc. same for dizzy or use mine above

where are you in this flow.?

PS: the dizzy can be timed 4 ways, 1 is factory method , other 3 work perfect but will not look right to next person and will drive many crazy.
see? That next person might be you.

set it at 11pm as my link shows.

you must follow the steps exactly.
step 3: cam and crank at Tdc #1 FIRING ( never exhausting tdc)
THEN DROP dizzy in the hole , tickling it left and right up and down until the rotor
points to 11 pm, as in the clear photos for 8v above.

if you need other manual pages, tell , me what step you are on and i will give them to you.

cheers.

that AZ proc,. is junk.

the FSM says this.

1. do the AZ way.
but if you moved the crank or cam the AZ method is bunk.
2: in the fsm , there is 2 more pages saying:

if you are replacing a short block, head, cam or other major parts then you must follow this procedure to set EVERYTHING corrrect.

rant:
AZ fails to do that, so does chiltons and Haynes. and many others.
the people that write the books (non factory)just mindless copy part of the truth out of the fsm and then skip major important parts.
Every professional mechanic know this simple truth.

"he that can not do, writes books, he that can not write books , teaches"

Im on the left side. sorry for poor grammer. just a knuckle dragger.

Get an FSM. and save a fortune on labor. <<< the real truth.

end rant. sorry.
