Exclamation Fuel Pump Replacements 96 2Dr/16V4wd

I have seen a number of posts (some quite old) re: economical replacement fuel pumps. I just replaced mine w/ an aftermarket 4.6L Ford Crown Victoria unit for MY 95-96. It is externally identical in every respect. My cost was $28.00, cheap because I am in the cab industry here in the US. Those cost-sensitive members among us would do well to find out where local cab drivers get their cabs fixed and, using my cost as a guide, buy one. I've had very good luck using these in 100's of cabs.

cabs, been almost killed twice in a cab.
lima, passing on left, in intersection, against red. (last year)
Manila , fell asleep , almost went off cliff, I grabbed wheel , saved all on board.
(sorry, flash backs)

the pump:
it has to pump. ok.
fit (hole) and not leak.

have the correct pressure for full throttle op's. (under sized?)
reach bottom of the larger tanks on some kicks. it is deeper.
have the same ohmic range as the origional or the fuel guage will not work.

if it is over capacity , it will be working really hard and die soon.
Because the regulator is holding 30psi, and the unit is designed for 50. Bad idea that would be.

rating on 8v is diff. than 16v.

put in a pinch......

not to put too fine a point on it, but: 1) pump depth is controlled by mounting bracket irrespective of model, 2) my tracker fuel guage sending unit is wired independently of pump, 3) most, if not all passenger car in-tank electric fuel pumps are of similar dimension and capacity and finally, 4) I'm unaware of any gasoline EFI system which requires more than 40 psi fuel rail pressure. As long as the pump is secured to the bracket vertically, wrapped w/, for ex. bicycle inner tube and tie wrap in the event fit is loose there should be no problem. Folks should not be afraid to cut wires if plug is not compatible, using small gray electrical wire twists to join them. THERE IS NO SAFETY ISSUE HERE AS LONG AS CUT ENDS ARE CONTAINED ENTIRELY INSIDE THE TWISTS.
