Default First Time Exhaust Man. Install. HELP! :)

Hi there... I'm completely new to the forum, and complete new to Geo/Suzuki. I recently purchased a 1990 1.6 8V Geo Tracker. It's in pretty good shape, but it needs a few odds and ends. It had a cracked exhaust manifold, so I decided that was the first thing I would tackle. I managed to remove the old one, Cleaned the head, put the new gasket on, and was JUST about to install the new manifold when I realized that there were no studs in the bottom of it to connect the collector to. The old manifold has three studs for the collector, plus one on the side to connect the lower manifold bracket. Please help a newbie. Where do I get these studs? Do I need a special tool to install them, or do I need to take the manifold to a muffler shop to have them attached. Any light you could shed on this issue would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I'm looking forward to tinkering with this little rig, it's impressed me quite a bit so far.

Are you replacing it with an OEM (or OEMish) manifold?

If they aren't to corroded or fused, you can try to extract the ones from the old header and re-use them.

I bought new studs (any auto store has em, metric)
under manifold studs.
and the nice brass matching nuts with lock washers.

the old studs are impossible to remove. (almost).

Yes, I'm replacing it with an OEM manifold. I've read on a few threads about the Calmini (sp?) header, but for my use the stock will be just fine.

Ok. I didn't know if those studs were readily available or if they were something special. Then again, I didn't know if they were suppose to come with the manifold either I'll head down to the auto parts store tomorrow and see what I can come up with!

The Calmini header is a beautiful piece of art...

The studs should be a common item.

factory one is devoid of studs, epc shows studs as extra pn.

they are metric and are of very tough steel grade.
the factory nuts ,sieze at the first opertunity, so I used tried and true, brass.

the autoparts store has a STD brand called HELP . (DORMAN brand clone)
They have really nice studs on this rack, with these fancy nuts. in a blister pack.

very close to this, (forgot mm size)

the correct oem manifold is Suz P/N
14111-61A01
( has mount point for brace which keeps manifold from cracking due to pendelum effect of tail pipe). [Archimedes' lever]

suz. pn for the stud is, 01411-10253

it' is well designed, but some people remove parts and don't put them back.

no mount = not OEM.

Ok guys... I got the studs today and I'm going to work on putting it all back together tonight. Just another quick question from a beginner...do I need to put thread lock on the ends of the studs that are going into the manifold? What about anti-seize on the nut ends? Thanks for your help!

No on the studs. Torque and thermodynamics will make sure they don't go anywhere. You can try anti-sieze on the nuts, but it will probably burn off in short order.

Hey guys...just wanted to say thank you... The transplant was a success and the little Tracker is oh so quiet now. This little rig is coming along nicely. Anyone have a recommendation for a tow hitch?
