Default ClassPack/Cherry Bomb or?

I i am Pat I am new here, from the city The Dalles Oregon, glad i found this site.
I have a 98 Chev Tracker 2wd with no frills for options except for the custom stereo w/3 10inch subs and more.
I changed the intake a little by making it fit with a aftermarked Cone like Filter, some other stuff too.

I traded a 89 Ford Bronco for this great car, i love this little car so i figured id start doing things to it for more power and better ride.

The exhaust is factory, but i want to put a Glass Pack or Cherry bomb where the factory is today.

I know the longer the Bombs the better its sounds so ive been told but i really want to do is have it installed then later i want to put a aftermarket Header on it when i have the money.

My question is and i hope you all dont think im going to ask a bunch of stupid questions because im new,
i just want to know what would sound best?

Also where is the Check Engine reset button is on the 98s?

Thanks Guys, this site rocks man, thanks for being here

Pat

Just cut the exhaust off and run an open header. lol!

All you are going to do by putting in a glass pack "muffler" is make it obnoxious and annoy your neighbors. Its a dinky little 4 cylinder motor, get over it.

Does the pulling the lights and horn fuze work on the '98s to reset the CEL?

your question is not valid. How can we, know what you want to hear.?
silly huh.

sound quality is in the ear of the beholder. ( Diety help thy neighors)

you need an OBD2 code reader or scan tool to reset codes.
pulling fuses, works 95 or older.

I have a high tech solution, buy a CD that has cool car sounds and play that.
even pipe it outside to fool friends, and anony neighbors.
Id pick sound of MX 400 2cycle dirtbike climbing a widow maker hill.
with full expansion chamber and all.
Id did that when young and you could hear me 20miles away.
heheheheh

I bought the direct fit high flow Magnaflow Catalytic Converter and a Magnaflow muffler for my little Tracker. It's not too loud but has a nice little grumble as it's idling and when you take off. There's a little drone as you're cruising at 65 mph, but it's nothing that's too loud. It certainly doesn't sound like a "ricer". I bought both pieces from ebay. I got the converter for $80 I believe while the muffler was about $50. I had a muffler shop put the muffler in with a 2 inch pipe all the way back, which was $70. Total cost of the whole system was $200. I did the cat converter in my driveway since all I had to do was unbolt the old one and put the new one in place and bolt it back in. Wundercarparts was the seller on ebay. Everything was brand new. I have never dealt with Magnaflow components before, but wow....they are nice. All stainless construction on the cat converter and the muffler. I wish that the muffler shop had stainless exhaust pipe though, they used regular aluminized pipe for my exhaust pipe. Hope this helps you.

Changing the intake also makes a big impact on how the car sounds.

Thumbs down

your question is not valid. How can we, know what you want to hear.?

I guess i should have made a map so you would understand my question,
I fugured someone here may have put a exhaust like the one i want so i wanted to know how it sounded and if there were any gains in the performance.
I am 40years old,im not a kid, 98 horses in these little toys is not that much so my point in changing the exhaust is to gain power and fuel milage not to piss people off who live near me.
A Cherry Bomb is cheap, and has no restriction so my idea to modify my exhaust is valid and needed.

Why would you reply with that? Grow up James. If you dont have anything interesting & helpfull to say to me then keep it to your self, it just makes you seem like a child man.

kytrackerguy,
Thank You for your help, had you not replied with the information i half expected from guys who share the same type of cars/little trucks.

Look, im not interested in bragging, telling anyone my car is better then theirs, nor did i join this site to be-little anyone for a question they may have, i joined because I Thought there were others here who like helping others as i do but what i got from the first time i post was stupid replies from a couple of guys who care nothing for the common ground we share with owning simular rigs, Sad, Very Sad

If your replies to my thread were to chase me off because im a new member, you may have just did that because i dont need to hear from little boys who havnt grown up yet.

I ordered and installed the freeflow piping from Calimini ( header, free flow muffler& larger pipe). I could not tell a lot of difference in power, but I got better MPG. My Tracker sounds like an old MG with the Calimini set up. It is not too loud for the neighbors, and it sounds good to me.

Just a side note changing the exhaust system is a tricky thing because lower back pressure changes the characteristics of the engine. Installing or modifying the exhaust system to be more efficient and flow more or have less restriction will ultimately gain you very little especially in an unmodified, stock small displacement engine. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from tunning a "dinky little 4 cylinder" rather the opposite. But virtually anything you gain in top end horsepower you lose in low end horsepower and torque so this can be an impractical and disappointing modification for the average owner. The same theory applies to the intake. Basically no matter how efficient the engine can suck in and push out the air it won't make much difference if the engine isn't trying harder to suck or push. I have a higher flow air filter, gutted cat and a less restrictive muffler, lighter under driven under drive pulley, light weight flywheel, and disconnected power steering pump. All this makes minimal impact to bottom line horsepower and torque because the engine is still the same internally. I also have a 30 shot of nitrous and with this addition the higher flow intake and exhaust become more crucial and when I install a bigger cam and larger throttle body it will be even more important. One thing I noticed about a higher flow exhaust is the engine is quicker to rev and more comfortable at the red line witch makes it more enjoyable to shift.
