My tracker accerates real good but when I let off the gas it is like I put the brakes on. The car lunges forward and slows rapidly. Some one suggested the parking brake but that is not the problem. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance to a great bunch of people here on the forum. Lenny
if it does it with automatic thrown in to neutral , its not engine.
do also (on a back road with no cars) and throw 4wd(you have 4wd? you didnt say) in to neural. what does it do in this mode.
if car lunges in 4wd neutral
jack up car and rotate all running gear and wheels,
then put in 4wd and auto in park and rotate wheels. (lock the hubs)
do you have auto locking hubs? just look at them. says lock , they are manual.
Id not run any car that does this fast.
one guy here last week , blew the whole front ring gear thru engine pan.
wrecking axle and engine at once.
lucky he was going slow.
many people run these cars with seized wheel bearings. why is a wonder.
after doing the Neutral tests.
id put it on a lift at a shop or put it up on 4 jack stands, and spin EVERYTHING by hand
and feel everything.
wheels and drive shafts.
also a U joint can get so bad it chatters, and is very dangerous.
check all joints for looseness, there must not be ANY.
happy holiday and be careful that kick to me sounds dangerous. (imho)
I think I made sound more severe than it really is. By the way it is 2w. I was thinking more of a throtle spring or cable. Are there adjustments for them?
I will check the neutral deal and check the wheel bearings. Thanks and I will report back. Lenny Love my tracker
you described violent deaccelaration.
your 8v tracker only cuts fuel on DeAccel. So only the normal feeling of
engine compression braking will be felt. any more spells trouble.
the seat of your pants are talking. listen them them.
if the throttle cable sticks , the opposite happens, gas stays on !
if someone puts a bigger spring on the throttle bell crank , nothing happens but your foot gets more tired.
if your car, in fact, DeAccels rapidly ,then you have a serious problem. ( yes)
park on a very slight incline, take off all brakes , in neutral.
will car coast , ? no? ( bad news bro)
spin the wheels, ( see priv. post)
any car the does not coast properly has a problem (tires with only 5psi?)
or much worse.
Imagine a front wheel bearing seizing at 70mph. (nothing to take lightly).
other checks:
axle lube level.
tranny lube level.
wheel bearing grease (pull hubs and gander) ( dry and bearing dust falling out? )
you'd hear noises but...
look to be sure front A arms are not falling off, seen two like that . just lately.
look at rear axle , on top for intact swing arm.
I did the incline test. Passed just fine. I did the put in neutral deal. I did this several times and it seemed to be the same as with it in gear. But in both cases no deaceleration. I guess it is just murphy's law. We will take wheels off and check wheel bearings tomorrow, too much football today. My guess now it is just normal deacel. I am used to driving my big dodge ram pu. Thanks for all the advice. I will let you know if we find anything. Lenny
check level hot, in park , after cycling each gear position.
check color of fluid. Pink good, not bad, smell test, sweet, smell burnt bad.
if bad flush.
Great call on the tranny. I had it flushed and refilled with fresh fluid. It took care of everything. Now I can work on the oil leak. It appears to be pan gasket maybe? It is really hard to tell. It is wet farther back also, I hope it isn't rear seal. How much $$ for one of these jobs? I don't do my own labor.
nah , it could be real easy.
its, engine oil right not pink, but dark brown and smells just like dip stick
best is to have engine cleaned then drive 10miles look, repeat
baring that :
1-Valve cover gasket.
2- the O-ring seal that the base of Distributor, dont take out unless you can time it.
3- rear seal of engine. (mine has inspection plate but on auto ?)
#1 and 2 are most common. and cheap to fix.
cheers
