Please help me with my vitara, I bought this vehicle last July of this year . It's 95 JLX Manual Tranmission Vitara. I brought it to the mechanic for engine overhaul and clutch disc replacement, but still I have this problem in climbing slope road. When running in 1st gear i could say its okay, but when i shift to
2nd gear the power is not there and it run so slowly. I already ask the mechanic to clean the ISC valve but I think I should replace the cork metal in order to clean the valve thoroughly or should I replaced the ISC valve into a new one?
As of now my rpm is set 1400 when i set it to 1000 the engine dies. I also experiencing lately when I travel say 30km with my aircon running, the RPM drops and If dont step on ther pedal it will die also.
one last tid bit of data, needed here.
8 valves or 16 valve (95 year both were sold)
if valve cover shouts 16 valves, it is, else not.
my guess its an 8 valve.
these engine race at idle with any air leak.
also they have only 80hp at the flyweel and maybe 65 at the wheels ,new.
I take hills in 3 gear but thay are 50% grade or less. 45mph, but Pikes Peak?, nah.
ISC has two functions:
1- adjusts the cold idle ( allows extra air in for cold start, purely mechanical in nature)
2- it has a coil solenoid and this gets modulated by the ECU.
this modulation changes with loads you place on the engine.
The ECU senses RPM changes and opens or closes this valve to keep RPM perfect at all times. 800 rpm it think.
if you have a vacuum leak, this ISC valves function will be impared.
the Cork. I presume you mean Gasket , if you have bad gaskets , replace them.
cracked or, worn, abraded, or peeled. toss.
my car had a bad Idle valve gasket and EGR gasket both leaked like crazy. 8v.
The 16v will lose power with any Induction air leak , behind the MAF. > intake valves.
The 8V will race directly proportional to the leak. More leak , ECU feeds more gas to match. ( pull any air tube and listen)
the 16v can not tolerate any air leaks. ( it just goes lean, and robs power)
The maf sensor is not used cold, and the TPS is Master of AIR , under cold start.
+ISC tiny bleed of air (which ECU has mapping for in side)
in this case , any leak causes lean , because you made the TPS tell a lie.
tell us more , what engine you have. lets hone in.
My ride has a 16 valve engine. I attached a picture i got from the web, its not mine but almost the same.
Another problem I have is the check engine light. When the mechanic finished his stuffed in overhauling and clutch disc replacement after 2 months of driving it just turned on and on until now whenever I'm driving. I found out also that the 1st two hole where the spark plug is located is wet with oil, but the other two is not.
Here is the condition when i drove it first from the mechanic hand. When running in first gear the honnnnng sound is so loud , the RPM is set to 1200. Turning on the Aircon the engine dies if I will not step on the gas pedal. So I adjusted the RPM to 1500. When running with the aircon engaged I have this jerky ride and If the gear is in 2nd I have to shift it to 1st gear in order to gain accelaration so I can shift to 2nd. I ask the again my mechanic to clean the ISC valve, now my engine will not die even with the aircon running, But the power when driving is not yet there. Climbing up in a building parking is so slow and afraid it might affect the engine itself.
Thanks a lot friend and I hope I can fix my ride with your help.
Regards,
Wasuki
Hello mr, 95-16v JLX. 5sp
welcome to the land of gutless 16v. problem. I guess it is LEAN.
I presume you did a tune up, cap, rotor, plugs, wires and filters.....?
I suspect (you didnt say) problem is only when engine is hot (normal temp)?
cold car runs almost perfect.? right? (tell me after tune up)
if still bad:
1- valve cover gaskets is bad causing leaks. ( unless it shorts out the spark plug which it will in due time) ( engine will shake like crazy when plugs short out)
2- Clean the Main EGR valve. it can be stuck open with carbon inside and destroys Fuel mix.
3- or you have a gross air leak in the intake manifold.
any hose, any gasket connected to the intake , injector seal or the main large pipe feeding the Throtlle body is leaking. at its junctures.
Finally! my long time time problem was fixed last night. That's why my vitara cannot accelerate even though I'm stepping the gas pedal is that my fuel pump needs replacement. Now I do not have hesitation on overtaking because my vits got the power already. I clean the ISC valve first (as what my brother jtgh here told me, thanks a lot man! ) and ask my mechanic to check the gas pressure, Bingo it failed and we replaced the fuel pump. Now I'm really amazed with the power of the small beast.... hahahahahahahah
