Default Question about fuel tank compatibility

Gas tank compatibility question

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings Folks!

(I have copied this question from the new members area due to lack of replies...probably a no-no!).

I have been a lurker here for some time and have found this forum to be a great source of useful information regarding maintenance and repair of these little trucks! Thank you all for the excellent help and encouragement!

The question that I have involves the following scenario:
I have a 1994 4-door 16v Sidekick that currently has a leaky gas tank (55l-14 gallons). I also have a 1991 2-door 8v Sidekickwith the 44l-11 gallon tank for parts. The question is whether the 44l tank from the 1991 will physically fit the 4-door Sidekick and whether the mounting capability is there? I have not come across any threads with this info as yet, so I'm hoping that someone might have some insight into this.

Thank you,
John

i can say part number same 4dr 91, and 4d 94 (never 95)
91 2dr, is diff. pn.

the 2dr is a smaller tank, it might fit.
if the tip to seam is the same then it is a fit.
the pn for the bottom protector shield is differrent. so you must use it.

I suspect 4dr tank is bigger only from CL seam to bottom ? just a guess based on PN.

that is the best I can do.
others?

Thanks JTGH,

In the event that the smaller tank would be compatible (at least temporarily),would I be able to use the existing fuel pump from the smaller tank? ( Intuitively I think that the 55liter fuel pump would not fit in the smaller tank).

Thanks again,
John

the problem is # doors and #valve, double trouble.
you must have a 16v pump , weather it will fit a 2door tanks is anyones guess.
that is the realm of hacking. few do it.
maybe the zuk crawlers do it to get less weight?

all of them have diff. pumps 91 , 92-94 and 95's are new again.

Ah, is it correct to assume that there is a compatibility problem running the 16v engine fuel system on an 8v fuel pump? I had not considered this possibility. I was hoping to get around messing with fuel pump and sending unit in the dead of winter by quietly substituting the smaller tanks with these units already installed (until better weather allows proper replacement of the fuel tank and accesories). It no longer seems as simple as I had hoped (rarely does....).

Thank you,
John

my guess ,even if fit hole, will not reach bottom and suck air.
my friends GM PU truck has spring loaded Fp and fits, all. pogo legs.
I dont think suzi has that magic.

the 8v is a lower pressure pump so, that nixs deal.
