Default E-Brake Light

The emergency brake light stays on even though the e-brake is disengaged. When I do engage the e-brake the light gets brighter. I have manually pressed the switch to turn it off and it won't. Does anyone have any advice besides black electrical tape...

Low brake fluid level or ABS fault.

I had the same problem. Fluid level was ok. I removed the RWAL (rear anti-brake) module from the plug and the e-brake light came off. I assume the module was fault.

what car,engine and year.?

Hand brake,Fluid level, pressure DIFF switch, RWAL. rear wheel antilock
you found RWAL.
it has its own ECU and its own DLC test jumper that flashes the lamp with codes.
the FSM has a huge 3page flow chart to walk thru to find the problem.
there is a hidden reset button.
Lamp flashes means RWAL ecm malfuction.

one common problem is metal filings get on axle tone wheel and causes sensor to fail.
FSM is the holy grail here.

It is a 94 Tracker 2wd 1.6L 8v Auto. Fluid level good. I didn't think I had ABS. Wheels have locked up under fast heavy braking. Also when I press the brake pedal when stopped like at a red light, the pedal will slowly sink. Any relation?

yes,
bad master cylinder, ( it could be leaking at any well cylinder always look there first ,if dry then master cylinder)
in fact inspect every inch of line, as 4wd = off road and that means rock damage , to me.

if the front and rear brake pressure get out of balance , the
diff switch throws, this sets an coded alarm in the RWAL ecu.
it can be read out , with a jumper , all the codes spit out just like the CEL lamp will.
fix the brakes and you fix it , is my bet.
btw , bleading is normal with this syst.
except the extra step of bleading that extra unit next the the MC up front. but no specail tools needed.
