probably too cold
mine does it only on rising temp days.
if you see that , it tells you the system is holding pressure.
many kicks rot the gas tanks for the top down (salt)
and main filler hoses crack.

Also called parts stores here to try and locate that canister, got a guy who said his buddy had one of these and asked me if it was Japanese made, which it is, he said the 24 is the Japanese equivelent of our code 12 and the 53 is regarding that evap canister, I do notice the smell of gas when I lift the hood. He also said I may not be able to find this canister anywhere other than at a dealer. I am going to check in the morning with another parts store that was able to get me odd parts that I couldn't find anywhere else other than at the dealer. I did copy the pictures you sent me and was looking for the vacuum hoses, It got a little late and didn't get up until late to start looking for all of them so will have to look more tomorrow, there is one small plug connector that I do see that is not attatched, wish I could take a picture and put it here so you could see, don't know how to do that. I do have a cell phone camera that I have taken pictures with and then sent them to my e-mail and forwarded them from there. Just thought that might help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Victoria

What do I do next? I looked up the 24 it says vss circuit, and the 53 is listed on the other side under tbi fuel injection as ground circuit, I'm confused. Should I check the codes again?

Hi VICTORIA

that's a really good set of wild errors.
it is real:
1- ecu is totally crazy and faulting internally (common)
2- Ground is bad and Vehicle speed sensos is bad.

do not drive with jumper in place,

now disconnect battery and clear your codes.
start and idle the car only and see what errors you get using the std procedure you did ( it was perfectly executed , bravo !)
you might get code 12. (normal)

I'd check the grounds on the ECU.
I know some by heart;?
the one the wires heavy black wire to bottom bolt to Distributor, at rear of engine head.
one near the Thermostat housing.

I will look in the morning and in my FSM paper,
it has a flow chart for each error and i remember the one on 53 showing photos of the grounds.
more later.. 9am tomorrow.
happy Christmas

PS: edits much later:
53 code means, someone put a california ECU in a Fed48 car.

the Calif.ECU has a diff pn and has a special test pin (gounded in cal car harness)
that tells ECU (cal) that it is plugged into the correct car.

someone put a cal ecu in your your Fed48 car.
the penalty for that (performance and smog) is unknow to me ,nor is it documented. ( took me 1 year to learn this)

Okay, Just want to make sure I understand you correctly, you want me to
take the wire out of the cel testing plug or the tang and then I am to do the
disconect battery and wait a couple of minutes, then connect it back up, start vehicle and let run, then while it is running you want me to do the jump test with the wire at 2 and 7 and then see what code I get. I hope I don't get shocked. Or am I supposed to let car idle then shut it off and do test like I did before with just the key on? Getting shocked isn't any fun.

What about pulling that tail/dome fuse? I saw that listed in your directions, I haven't done that. Don't even know where fuses are located.

Am going to go outside now and do battery dissconect then start vehicle and let run and shut it off and re-do test with jumper at 2 and 7, just looked at weather, right now its 34 degrees here, tomorrow at 9 am it will be wintry mix of snow and rain here and temps around 27, don't want to be doing this in those conditions and don't have a garage to pull into, so will do test now.

Went outside and took wire out of plug, got vehicle started and turned it off, tried to get negative battery cable off and can't get it off, tried 1/2 inch too large, then 3/8 too small, don't have 7/16 to try. Where are the fuses located? Maybe I can do that. Please advise. Thank you. Victoria

Also there is an electrical connector to the left of where you put the oil in vehicle that is not connected, any idea what that is for? And I don't see what it should be plugged into. It has a small connector or plug on it.

ok , we are going to repeat the test, that is all.
1- pull jumper 27
2- pull tail dome fuse (may work, works on 91) 1-min, back in .
fuse is above left knee , small brown cover 2x6" see id on lid.
this clears all codes. this fuse is also the ECU's memory powerwire.
fuse is back. car is normal in all respects.
3- start & idle engine a while or drive a while whatever.
key off.
4- put back jumper ( lets call that jumper 27 for clarity)
5- pull codes, if see 12 , ok ,if not report.

that wire near oil filler pipe on top rear of valve cover?
yours is a 16v so I can go look. mine is 8v.

if square plactic and has pins give pin count and number of wires.
if it is a ring lug , then it is just one lug but can have more than one wire on the crimp, if the wires are big and black , that is not good if it is a ring lug. All rings must be terminated or connected to something. ( mostly)
some times a cluster of ring lugs. all black wires.
there wire size is simular to lamp cord, 18 gauge.

There are 3 places where there are ground points. about.

some one did an engine swap , it is common for these people to forget wires and especially ground wires, your ECU must have them all terminated or the ECU will go quite insane.

id look all over the engine, the back fire wall and then under dash for any obvious unconnected plugs. There is a pair mounted to the bottom of the steering column , ingore them. (Diag conns).

if your car keeps giving the 53 code we will do a test.
later.
a ground test.
