Default Vin# 1996 Tracker

I am a bit puzzled maybe someone here can help me. I tried to order a throttle cable from an OEM GM parts supplier and they stated that my Vin# was not in GMs data base. I know that this is a valid # because I ran a CarFax report before I purchased it. Anyone else had this problem? I wonder if GM is trying to get away from providing parts. I asked a Suzuki parts dealer about the cable and they refered me to a GM dealer.
Thanks all
Bear

They must have screwed up the VIN number. Thats stupid anyway they shouldn't need a VIN to order parts.

vin is on car use that, the vin on the insurance card or vin on license tabs could be wrong.

there is a web site (hundreds) that you can break down each number and check it.

google them.
or post your Vin here and put xxxxx for the last 5 digits , (mask your sn)

look on the dash of your car, mine is on left side of dash , must open door to see.
others are top dash left. look thru windshield.

I gave them the vin # that is located on the tag on the dash. It is the same # I used for a Carfax check before I purchased it. I called my local Chevy dealer and they also said that is was not in their data base. They said the problem is with the last 8 numbers.
Confused...Yes

there are many parts in the EPC listed by VIN.
mid year they make changes for a host of reasons. (safety flaw?)
in fact the EPC has a VIN filter. so Vin not being important is not a valid general statement (lawyers?). EG: pump assy on Power steering. vin ranged. the pistons are Engine SN ranged !

sorry!

possibilites:
1- wrote down vin wrong from dash plate.
2- GM Data base is full errors .

if #2 then they they need to look at what you want and see if
that is sensitave to VIN, if not ,then they need to sell that part.
there is no reason to not do that.

I say this all tongue in cheek, as I too buy parts for my GM (yah)
Tracker , and I get them all from Suzuki, every ONE !
HOw do I do that?
1- I order from the EPC
2- or I order from a friendly Suzuki dealer by name.

If you need a friendly source let me know.

break down:
2cn = canada GM manufacture code.
BJ186 = features.
8 = check digit ( like a check sum in computers)
T = 1996 year
6 = Plant code
9xxxxx ( six digit body serial number , called sequence by Suz)

another fact is the EPC can scan by partial VIN.
someone needs a day of class in the parts dept.
they can search by partial VIN .

I hope this help you.

Sorry , we are draining the swamp and the aligators are free.
PN , throttle cable.
Suzuki PN: 15910-57B11 , 96/97 MT or AT , no vin restrictions to date 2000 ( after that you are on your own)

Goday:
EPC = Electronic parts list

jtgh ,

I have been searching for 4 hour in google and can´t find a place to run my vin, I´m curios about my car since it has only 89,000 mi. in the odometer, and it is in mint condition. Could you make me the favor of running my vin or giving me the exact e address ? Thankyou in advance.
