Default Throttle cable

I've searched the forum and found info on cleaning the throttle body when the throttle sticks but I think my problem is in the cable itself. When I press the gas peddle to the floor it takes a second or two to come back up again (a real pain when shifting). I pumped the peddle a bunch of times and now it's running normally again. Makes me think that the cable is getting stuck.

Is there a way to lubricate the cable? Should a spray penetrating oil in at the high end? Do I just need to replace the thing???

You can buy special cable oilers but I think the best thing to do is just buy a new OEM one and it'll last another 12 years.

Rotate by hand the butterfly rod bell-crank on the TBody.
if its sticks still, then Intake area around the TB inside is coked up.
TB or cable , find out which is the culprit.

It's unlikely that the TB is clogged up but it's also possible that the TB return spring is weak or broken.

Make sure the plastic cover isnt causing a problem, had the same problem and it turned out to be the plastic cover was warped and binding on the TB piviot.

My problem seems to be cold weather related and has only appeared since the the temperature went below freezing. Throttle doesn't stick in the heated garage but starts sticking when I get out on the highway. At the end of the day, after being parked outside all day, it sticks right away and loosens up as the engine warms. Am I wrong in my thinking that there must be some water or something in the cable that freezes up? The plastic cover over the TB doesn't seem to be warped or broken and wouldn't coking of the TB or worn or broken springs be a problem at any temperature?

I tried finding a new OEM cable from the local parts store (Lordco) and they couldn't find it in their computer or any of their catalogues. I had them looking under Asuna, Pontiac, GMC, Geo and Suzuki. Can someone help me locate this part?

Update: the throttle cable is definitely the problem. I opened up the cover again and sprayed in some WD-40 into the top end of the cable, then pumped the gas pedal. When I did that, I find out that two of the cable strands are broken. I trimmed some of the frayed cable and sprayed a little more oil in. Between that and slightly warmer weather, I think I can survive until a new cable arrives.

never did find a throttle cable locally but there is a GM dealer 45 minutes up the highway and they've ordered one in. Hope to have it in time to install this weekend, otherwise I might not see it until after Christmas.

Thanks again for the help!
