Default Spark plug questions....

I went to Carquest and got some tune up parts for my 94 Tracker. The counter person seemed unsure about the correct plugs. He said there were two different sets, one for California vehicles, and the other non-Cali. FI-U or FI-6. Which is correct, and how do I know for sure?

He gave me NGK BPR5ES

Also, there is a Gap issue. Under the hood, it states the gap to be set at .028 inches, but on the NGK website it says .032 inches.

What is correct here? I've never had such confusion with spark plugs before.

first find out what eng. you have, cal. or other. Then check on Spark plug, Spark plug wire, spark plug gap, spark plug cross reference and ignition wires at Sparkplugs.com and then the gap must be the one under the hood. Think under the hood says if you are cal. emition or other.

OK, I'm 99.9% sure it's not a Cali motor.

But the website you linked also says a gap setting of .032, and the NGK OE plugs are already gaped to .032 (I checked)

So who knows better, NGK or the factory? I want the plugs to operate efficiently as possible and last as long as they should, and using the wrong gap setting could compromise that. I'm going to give NGK a call to clear this up.

I just talked to an NGK tech, and he said on traditional plugs to go ahead and set to factory gap setting. However, he mentioned that the platinum and iridium plugs should NOT be touched and installed as is from the factory.
