Talking how many miles can you get on a timing belt

i know your supposed to change them every 100,000 miles or so but who got the most miles on one?

Dunno how many miles you can get, but if it's a 1.6 interference engine and the belt breaks, the pistons hit the valves and destroy things. bad-bad-bad. That's why they have to be changed before they break. Tracka96

8valve is free running
100 kilometers FSM and OP guide say this.
60 k miles
60 months.

good belts last 100k miles but that depends on heat, and quality of the belt.
I hear of people snapping them at 128k miles.

its like asking how many miles on tires?
YMMV. (no pun)

i fully understand that they should be changed regularly but ive had 2 zuki's with over 200k with the oe timing belts still in em. my daughter drove one for 150k without changing anything--oil,belts,grease--nothing . ive heard the horror stories as well!

Cool

do they usually strip out a few cogs and mess up your timing or do they have a tendency to self destruct? i have a 16v tucked away on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere and im a bit mechanical but ive never tackled a timing belt before and i havent been able to find a zuki mechanic yet.

they are all different. belts.

send me a pm with good email link and Ill send you a small manual for 16v belt change.
it is 1 megabyte, small.

Much confusion exists on the procedure.
1- do belt
2- do belt with WP
3- do belt with WP - Cam seal & crank seal and all new hoses.
4- do belt , with WP and hoses ( what I just did)

The manuals will have you pull down to seal area, so change the
instructions to meet your needs.
I didn't need a cam holder or crank holder. to do mine,
I do not know about a 16valve head, however. Im looking that up now.

good day.
