Default Difference Between G16a/g16b Engine Blocks

Hi there guy's and Gal's,

I have just recently bought a 96 model Suzuki Vitara jlx which has had an engine change as the original engine cracked a bore! After purchasing the car I have realised that the engine number starts with G16A and not G16B that it's supposed to have! The original 16V head is still on the engine but the engine number does not make sence!

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the two engine blocks G16A and G16B as it looks like they have used a G16A bottom end on my engine?

They all say G16A as theres no differance in the bottom end other than valve reliefs in the pistons on the 16v. I also cracked a block.

Thanx Shconer I'm only new to the suzuki car range so I'm just checking up on a few things. I picked the vitara up for less than I thought it would be and wasn't sure if I'd picked up a dud! Cheers for your reply!

B engine has better crank, not forged better ,has counterweights on all journals unlike 2 (front and rear) of A series.
Then the pistons can be different .
the best block is the one out of a Swift GT. has forged crank and rods.

the engine serial number (bottom left stamp on block)
has a letter , that letter , uses the same rules for
YEAR manifactured as the VIN 10'th

1996 = T (tango).

the letters, oh, Q, U, and Z are skipped.
if you need a list ask.
