1997 Sidekick JLX 4 dr.
The other day I hit the switch to roll the window down and it went a few inches down, then made a terrible sound, then the window literally fell down into the door. I heard a bunch of crunching and weird noises so I pulled the door panel off and there it was, this cable thing and all its components in pieces. Most cars just have a motor assembly on a wheel, not this thing. Well, anyways I finally managed to get the window up by pulling it up. Now I have it all duct taped to not fall down. I can hear the motor working, but this crazy pully cable thing is in shreds. About how much is it to fix this? Since theres absolutly no room to work in there I'll have to have a mechanic do it. Might not even fix it. My AC and heat work great so I'm not really worried about it, plus I plan on selling this thing pretty soon anyways. Just curious what kind of pricetag a fix like this has. Thanks.
You're lucky that you don't have toll booths to pay at!
I think that a good USED window mechanism would be worth a look see. NEW dealer parts are going to be sky high, I believe. I'm guessing $300-$400 range total w/install (maybe more).

Thanks Max!!!!! Wow! Thats not a bad price at all. Looks like the entire assemby too. My motor still works, just the cable system is destroyed. I could probably buy the one for 52.99 on ebay then turn around and sell my used window motor and make some of that $ back...
Now, I wonder how hard it will be to attach to the glass. They dont leave you much room to work in there.
Let's hope that another member will step up and provide a "how to" for replacing the regulator.
Don't expect on getting anything for the old motor. At THESE prices for a whole regulator assy, peeps won't bother w/an old used motor. But I could be wrong!
Glass attachment? Probably some RTV if that's the way it's held in place now (with a sealer / cement) on the channel piece, like most vehicles.

I did the exact same thing to my drivers side window. We just rolled it up and put a couple nuts, bolts... since I plan to keep this Sidekick for awhile. Exactly, no room at all... I was thinking of buying used complete door, with manual windows.
