Default Newbie with CEL on '93 Sidekick

Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Just bought a '93 Sidekick and right away the CEL came on and stayed on. I have found that the #4 exhaust runner is cracked completely through. Could this be an obviouse cause or do I need to dig deeper? Right now it idles a little rough and fuel economy is gone.
Thanks.

good chance ,is crack sucks air and this air hits OXY sensor, then sensor says LEAN, so ECU up's Fuel injecton pulse widths ,then you are rich as a dog.
Cat gets hot stinky too, but ignore that.
then it sets CEL.
codes easy to pull, and only costs 1 cent.

CEL

manifolds can be had for $99 , in cast iron after market. pretty dang cheap.

diag Plug is just in front of car battery ! has back plastic cap. over white conn.

CEL

HOS2 circuit.

english that means, heated oxygen sensor ,
bad.

it could be a connection to it bad , melted rusted.
it could be a cracked manifold.

the ECU is saying the readings comming from this sensor are crazy.

Well the manifold is definitely cracked on #4 runner just above the O2 sensor so that looks like the culprit. I'll go pull the sensor and see what it looks like. How can I test it?

any oxygen leak (air too) will cause the OXY to bonkers.
fix the crack is only fix.
luckily , New manifolds can be had for $99
even used too.

make sure all the clamps are not missing on manifold.
block to man, CAT to Tranny mount. and rear swivle on rear of cat are all important to preventing manifold cracks.

Okay, many thanks. I'll get on it on monday. I had the sensor out and it looks alright (not damaged), but I know thats no proof it's working. All connections are good . Where are you getting a manifold for $99.00? Up here everything I've priced is like $300.00+

tell us the stats
8valve , 16valve
2 doors , or 4 doors,
this car has 4 different manifolds this year , in canada.

not the dealer. maybe more for 93? ,but I hope not.
2 door or 4 door. big diff.

lost my link to cheap new manifold, sorry
but
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

lots of them in western Canada. at wreckers/dismantlers.

hints:
take a steel straight edge ruler with you, and check for warpage.
dont buy one with broken collectors studs. Biatch to get out.

At the Manifold end there is a part, this part is called a STIFFENER.
it is just a bracket between end of MAN and Block.
it must Never be broken , or loose. Trust me. 4 cycl shake like dogs.

Ya, it's a 4 door, 16 valve. I checked at a dealer and they quoted me $330.00. I can get a coated header from Cal Mini for $250.00 which I'd do before spending that much on a stock one. I'll try wreckers at the coast on monday. I put some muffler goop on as much of the crack as I could get at and took it for a drive and the CEL went out after about 10 miles. It seems to be idling much better now. It has a bit of an intermittant miss now but that will probably be plug wires or plugs.
Thanks again for all your help! Because of that I've gone from being completely in the dark to being almost dangerous. lol

make sure the tube header has a OXY sensor bung. or it will never run right. ( and it fits OEM cat and cat back setup)
otherwise the $80 saving snow balls.

many AM headers miss the mount for the engine to header point.
then the header flexs like mad ( common to all 4cyl. engine except ones with a silent shaft) , then next thing you know your tube are cracked.

My new jeep cracked the headers twice for this reason, fine SST header too ! found the header brace cracked where I couldnt see it.
The best header is one that cant flex. Trust me.
