Question 97 sidekick rpm trouble

I just fixed the timing on my 1997 sidekick. But now sometimes when it starts the rpm go way down and then they slowly go up and some times its a bit sluggish when it starts off. Any ideas someone said that it might be a bad fuel pump............I put some injector cleaner in and then I reset the computer to try to get it to reset after it was so advanced..neither helped.............any ideas would be great

Default could be EGR Valve

I had one go bad recently. It sounds like maybe yours is starting to go bad and sticking open. It's not hard to access at all. I have the same year and model tracker as yours. I took mine off and cleaned/lubricated it and that solved my problems. Replacements are around $100 if you feel the need to do so.

Might also want to replace the plugs and wires.

only cold , idle is unstable?
Hot what does it do?
what timing, ignition or cam?

are you tuned up? plugs, filters?

could be many things, including stuck IAC/ISC (idle control valve) or EGR sticking. they can be cleaned and it is common to do so.

ISC is in diff. location on 1.6L and 1.8L this year.

on 1.6 , the ISC bolts to Intake manifold and has 1 air tube and 2 water tubes.
It controls the idle under cold start conditons.
Dont have fSM this year but there may by some other hot idler controller under TB or ? the ECU controls directly.

middle eastern, the plot thickens. cool.

yah, there are 33 export model types.
if you need help
tell is :
what country the car was exported to: (from suzuki)
the make , model. CC 1.6L or 1.8L, 4wd, 2 doors, automatic?
all are very important to the diagnosee.

engine controls and smog devices vary widely world wide.
compare California to Russia models. as an example of extremes.

Other nice things are Mileage
and any Modifcations done.
and any parts changed in the last 6 months.

great that you dont have EGR valve, they
are a pain to clean.

on previous post you didnt answer the three quesitons.

recap.
only cold , idle is unstable? (does it mess up cold only)
Hot, what does it do? ( does it only fail hot)
what timing, ignition or cam? < what did you mean by this ?)

are you tuned up? plugs, filters? < tune up condtion.

Qatar, cool the largest GTL plant in the world.
dont smoke there, hah.
ok:
97 ( is check engine light on while driving?)
if yes pull the codes.

a vacuum leak , it sounds like.
pinch each hose and expect RPM to not drop.
if it drops there is a leak.
Your ISC (IAC) idle controller could be dirty and needs cleaning.
IAC is in front of TB and above water thermosat outlet pipe.
it has 3 tubes, 2 water, 1 air.
INDUCTION LEAK:
Pipe from TB to MAF , cracked broken or leaking.
or TPS on TB , bad.

id start with hose, and main induction pipes.
then test TPS with voltmeter. for proper range and no drop outs.

regards

sorry ,so slow
what does reset computer mean?
how did you do that?
To me this implies that you had a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.? glowing

If that is true ,please do not ignore it.
YOUR ECU will tell you what is wrong. (very important)

If you need more help?
tell us exactly what the car does that you do not like.
Tell us what it does HOT. ( hot = engine coolant gauge says normal)
and what it does COLD. ( cold = engine temp. says cold)

tell us the state of tune. ( plugs, wires if you have them)
tell short history of repair ( you got it with the CAS set off by 2 teeth)

since you are off shore (usa) tell us if you have a distributor with wires or do you have 4 coils on plugs , engine.
There are so many export models it boggles the mind !
You have no EGR system , thanks.

ok , lets fix your car.
