no start. your country?
mileage on engine?
mileage since last tune up.?
1.6L vitara, MPI
yours is 1.6 MPI (multipoint fuel injection ) side draft Trottle body.
Coil over plug.
correct me if wrong.
This is OBD2 level car, no MOrse code CEL flashes, needs scan tool.
but you said , NO CEL !
FIRST CHECK ALL FUSES, in CAB and under the HOOD !!!
NO start , now or after next day ! Solid fail , I preceive.
Id, pull the oil filler cap , have someone crank car and look to see if CAM shaft spins ( snapped T-belt)
HOw old is that belt, 150k US miles? they snap between 100 and 150
dont you know, and on 16 valve engines, catastrophically.
yours is 8v , thankfullly
back to basics.
MPI , is more difficult ,so will flip coin and land on Spark.
(pull all the spark plugs ( to relieve starter load)..
Step1: try instant start, or LP applied to engine when it doesnt start.
If this scares you (does many) then we do it the hard way.
if step 1 passes , you have bad injection ( fast test huh)
get a helper, , get a spare sparkplug
unplug #1 coil OVER. connect coil over to plug, ground the shell of the
plug, to the block ,.now have other person crank , you watch , dont touch cuz
50,000 volts will bounce you off a wall. ( not kidding)
the spark must be fat and bright, not weak. blue white ,not yellow/org.
examine every inch of the coil OVER unit for damage.
no cracks ,dirt, grease , chips ,carbon, nothing but perfect plastic.
check tip carefully for damage and the whole side of tube.
repeat THIS test for each cylinder.
if spark is good, then Id do a compression test, since plugs are out.
but that's me.
if compression is above 150 cold (170 hot < you cant do that)
and equal between cylinders. then engine ok. (mines 155 cold)
Ok , the instant start trick would at least tell us if the engine is operational.
if the instant start trick , made the engine start for 1 sec.
and it sounded real good, it would in fact most probably be real good.
just starving for fuel.
MPI. BAD (spark is good)
how to proceed with that .
Me, Id start with gas pressure. check for proper gas pressure at the fuel pump. While at that, get a new fuel filter.
it is very unlikely that all 4 injectors clogged or decided to go dead.
start by having someone keyON , no Start and you listen in the
gas cap with cap removed for pump sound.
you should get 3 seconds of sound at the moment of KEY ON.
on a 96 , it could be longer, I do not know.
The ECU gates the pump via a relay, the key on, just wakes up the ECU.
this should get you on the correct path.
