Default Help newbie with 91 side kick

I recently purchased a 91 sidekick for 200.00 as a beater, now I've been lurking on this site for info and it's been great although it seems that I have a typical prob. in that the engine bogs down and I have to feather the gas to get it back up, it also lacks power..Now I changed plugs and wires cap, rotor, cleaned egr, iac used Seafoam and changed fuel filter...I also swaped out the eger to see if there was a change.....at times it ran ok but then it returns to its antics.....like its starving for gas or ? Now I cant find the map sensor nor can I find the maf...can someone help me find these in simple terms as I'm the novice mech.. Thanx in advance

I forgot ..I get only 12 repeated when I checked for codes , so I guess thats ok....also I'm wondering if a clogged cat. would cause the same symptom ? How do you check for that?.....Thanx

91 , ok
8valve or 16 ? very important , vastly different EFI.
4wd ?
manual tranny?

I'll assume you did the basics (tune up, done, ok).
compression, check valve timing, must be correct.

code 12 , great.
8v does not have a MAF ( but you didn't say what engine)
Just tell us how many fuel injectors do you see?

I have a bogging page.
powerloss

does car idle proper at 800rpm hot?
and 1200 rmp cold?
does car have lots of power COLD and bogs only HOT.?

when you answer these questions, we can find out
what your engine and EFI are doing.

welcome to Suzuik forum.
you got a good deal, here where I live once you fix this problem the car is worth 1200 to 2500.
good news, if the basics are good, we can fix this cheap. (engine and tranny not blown)

worry the CAT last , as it is almost ALWAYS a victum. Not a CAUSE.
yes it can be tested , with a pressure gauge. its easy if you have gage.

since I have no idea what country you are in or smog regs, I can
not help much.
Many times, when the cat clogs, you fix the EFI condition and then run the car and the cat will clear out in time. But if you are due a Smog check in the next 30 days, then my help is of no use, SEE?
If you say where you live ( General) we can give vastly better advice.

Yers jtgh , your page was the first thing I went over as I was lurking the site....I live north of Toronto and I believe it is an 8 valve, 4 wheel drive, I think the same as yours I do not have pressure gauges, but my feeling is it has to do with the fuel pump...it idles ok once it warms up cold it will stall out so I push the peddle a few times to get it up there....I assume it will get worse when the cold weather arrives

Hi 8v
what is"I also swaped out the eger"?
yes, EGR, that' it.

Cold runs, ok
hot , starves!
idles ok hot. (not racing)
In order of Probables: ( not a vacuum leak)
Fuel filter (new so not that)
Fuel pump
Fuel regulator at TBI.
Bad MAP sensor (on fire wall behind TBI)
Last would be clogged FI.

Jerry, can you guide me through this proc. I mean a step by step on checking the injector.......I also noticed above the butterfly in the T.B there is a ball with 2 screws holding it there and if you open this up there is a black thig with wires running to it....Is this the injector and is there any maitenence that I can do to it ? should I swap this out as well.............I swapped a map from one in the wreck yard it seems to run better but still bogs on occ. and low power off the hop.......on the highway it is much better......maybe the "sock" in the fuel pump is clogged....I could not remove a decent fuel pump from the wreckers as they were all rusated pretty bad.....Thanx Villain
